Staunton is beautiful...There's a Super Walmart in that area too(which we hit EVERY time we're in the area).

The Shenandoah Valley is a wonderful place. We were there this past May and the area is beautiful. We used the Front Royal KOA (won't do that again) as our hub and did most of the caverns. Luray, Endless, Skyline, Grand and Shenandoah Cavarns all in a matter of just 3 days.
Even enjoyed a Civil War reenactment at the New Market Battlefield in New Market, VA. Something tells me that Marshall & Rosemary were there also. Maybe even reenacting?
We also stayed a couple days in Natural Bridge, which is just south on I-81. And there is another cavern down at Natural Bridge called, what else, Natural Bridge Cavern.
And you can't forget Skyline Drive and all it's beautiful vistas.
In my opinion, this would be the perfect area for a rally. There is something for just about everyone within just a short drive.
And Yes, you GOTTA have the WallyWorlds and a SUPER one is even better. One of the first things a fulltimer asks at campground registration is ..Where's the nearest WallyWorld????

wow, in the Shenandoah Valley with all the conveniences of "home"...what more could a camper ask for ???

Glenn and Lorraine, did you get to the Natural Bridge itself? George Washington's initials are carved in the side from when he surveyed the property for Thomas Jefferson. Also, Monticello is not real far and is an awesome visit. You probably got to all of those also.

We stayed near Staunton for five weeks in Aug/Sep 2003. Been to that super wallymart. Nice area to just take unplanned drives in the countryside.

Almost forgot, Lexington is closeby, also. There you find the home of Stonewall Jackson, the burial site of Robert E. Lee and his family, as well as Jackson, VMI - Virginia Military Institute (well worth a walk around) and the Washington and Lee University, also worth a walk around. This town has beautiful old buildings and homes. Stop at the Visitors Center for driving and walking tour maps and ask for advice for great places to eat, local color. You can probably tell this is one of our favorite places to visit.

If the timing works out we hope to join you. We have granddaughters in the DC area we take camping every year. This year we're talking about doing it during Spring Break rather than in late Summer. Not sure the timing yet but we'll be watching for the timing of your rally and if it's anywhere close to our time there we'll plan to join you.

Marshall and Rosemary -- Having just returned from your beautiful state would sure be interested in attending your rally if we are able. There seems to be so much to do and see in Virginia, I know we only touched the tip of the iceburg on our recent excursion and look forward to a return visit.

For what ever it's worth, one of the areas we enjoyed was the Winchester area. We stayed at Candy Hill Campground which was really, really nice. Extremly clean, well manicured grounds, escort service to your site, concrete pad to park Monty. Candy Hill was recommended by Tom and Joyce (Thank you, we enjoyed are stay).

Good luck in pulling together your state rally. Will watch this site for upcoming news.

The last week in April would be good. If you cannot find a place along I81. How about your hometowm of Williamsburg. There is a lot of history down there. could american Hearitage handle a rally?

Yes, they can handle a rally,however, I was just trying for a more central Virginia location with easy Interstate access. We can do the same thing here....take a vote for location, although most of the post I have read seem to favor a central Virginia location.

We just purchased a 2005, 3400RL... from Southern RV in Richmond.. we have not taken our "shakedown" cruise yet but are planning on a Williamsburg trip, 3 or 4 days, the second week in November... We live in Kenbridge, Va. (my wife, Gail, is retired now and I will be shortly) We are interested in being a member of the Virginia group... her name on the MOC is Gailmx and of course I am Speezack...
Please include us in your group and although we are somewhat limited at this point from doing much camping... due to my present work schedule... we are very much looking forward to the future in the new Montana!!! We also just posted a message titled "New Members" sort of introducing ourselves.... thanks...

I was wondering about Williamsburg, Va.... second week in November is our "shakedown" cruise in our new Montana 3400RL... We want something in the "woods" the more secluded the better.... I notice there are several members from that area.... suggestions are welcomed....

Depending on when it was held we would try and come. The first 7 days of the month are not good for me because that is my crunch time at work but otherwise we would try and be there.

Since I'm not sure how we can set up a "vote" forum as we have for our MOC National 2005 Rally, I'm just going to start asking for suggestions as to location and month for anyone who, at this time, would be willing to say that they would attend a MOC "Virginia Rally".
So far, from the responses I have received, it seems like the Shenandoah Valley is a popular place and the last week of April is prefered.
Now the question arises as to duration of this rally...what's your thoughts about this, to make it a Thursday thru Sunday rally or a Wednesday thru Sunday rally ? Most other local club rallies seem to have theirs during a 4/5 day period which includes weekends.
I have contacted Walnut Hills Campground in Staunton, VA and awaiting their reply as to rates and their facilities for a rally such as ours. Please don't think I'm pushing Walnut Hills, I'm not, I only suggest them since they are so centrally located along I-81 and I-64 corridor and in the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley.
I have never organized any RV rally like this before, so if someone else has more expertise or experience please feel free to step in and say so, as I can use your help, or I can let you set this up and I'll surely help you all I can.
Awaiting some replies, responses, suggestions and thoughts about where, when and how long.

I'm in favor of the Shenandoah Valley area and prefer a Thursday thru Sunday rally...we would most likely arrive Wednesday night late and leave on Monday morning.

Shenandoah Vally, the end of April is good for us too. I'm afraid we will be very little help to start with since we will be returning from Florida and South Carolina the first part of April. WE can certainly help at the rally though.

With enough notice for the dates we will be there. Wife needs as much notice as possible for time off. We would probably arrive daytime Wed and leave noon sun but whatever is decided will work for us.

Location doesn't matter to us, We will be in Va Beach around the 5th of Nov for 4-5 days.

Marshall & Rosemary, I'm not sure if you've been to Walnut Hills or not. We spent 5 weeks there a year ago this past August/Sep including a week with two of our granddaughters. It's a nice park.

If you can, try to get on the upper level. If not there, then around the lake. The lower area in the trees by the creek can be a problem when they get a lot of rain. While we were there a few hours of very intense rain flooded that creek and those who were camped within 100 yards or so.

Also, some of their sites have instant phone. Read the fine print, though. You pay a daily amount for the phone but in the fine print it says you also pay two cents per minute surcharge. I didn't find out about this until end of the month when I went in to settle up. Just be aware of it.

It's a beautiful area and there's a lot of historical things to see and do in the area. You probably already know that. Yes, I would recommend the park.

Good luck with your rally. If we happen to be in the area at the right time we hope to join you. Our granddaughters are in Springfield, a ways away, but if we're there to see them anywhere close to your rally we'll try to attend.

I concure on the Valley in late April... no earlier because of the possibility of late snow.... I remember a camping trip I took the scouts on up on the Blue Ridge parkway in early May and when we woke up we were covered by 5" of snow... and I hate to admit it but "we (I) was not prepared.... (should a scout master say that?????)

... anyway.... put us down on the list ... the days are up to you all... I can arrange it.... we will be there for sure, just let everyone know the dates/times and you should have a good turn out....

We live in Powhatan, VA and would like to join a MOC. Caming in Feb and beyond. Won't winterize until December.

It’s been a while since I’ve been on MOC. I popped in and just noticed that there is now a Virginia MOC. That’s fantastic!

A rally in VA sounds great. We didn’t get to make the 1st annual MOC rally in September because DW had to work and couldn’t get off. Hopefully we will be able to make the VA rally.

We are in Fredericksburg, VA and have gone to Bethpage several times. It’s toward the east on the Rappahannock River in Urbanna, VA about 5 miles east of Rt. 17. They are large enough to accommodate the largest 5ers and have a topnotch facility. Most of the sites are 50 X 50.

We have also been to Mountain View Campground in Haymarket, VA. It is a nice place but has some tight areas.

We’d love to try to make this rally.
