Michelin problem!

On a recent trip to North Carolina, I noticed a vibration in the steering of our 2015 Silverado at 45mph and above. I know how hard these can be to track down, so it was with some trepidation that I took the truck back to the dealer. A short while later, they called me up and told me they had ordered a new tire for the front left wheel.

On the one hand, I'm glad they were able to pinpoint the cause so quickly. However this is my first experience with Michelin tires, and while I know any manufacturer can make an occasional bad specimen, I'm a bit disappointed, especially after reading that others are having problems with the Michelin brand. I hope this is an isolated incident and not an indication of future problems for this set of tires!

I have the same truck and tires at over 8000 miles, still smooth as glass. Have the same tires on my 4Runner at about 45,000 miles, still look new. So, my guess is an anomaly.

I had lots of problems with Michelin tires on a couple different vehicles over the years. I learned if you use tire dressing on them, the warranty is voided

Wow, sorry that happened, but glad it was just a tire, and sounds like it was resolved quickly.
I have had Michelins on my company trucks since 1976, never any problems and I think I had just one flat tire, as I recall.
I think and hope that was an isolated event.

I have Michelins on both our vehicles. And have put Michelins on all our vehicles after the OEM tires have worn out for the last 30 years or so. Have never had one fail, or even a problem with one. So I think it is an isolated incident.

My experience has not been good with Michelins. I put their top of the line on my truck and they are down to the wear bars in less than 25k on a 70k tire.
I am very careful about pressure, rotation & balance. I'll be buying something other than Michelins for the replacement set. I doubt my experience is an anomaly.
I will go back to where I bought them and see if they'll give me a credit towards another brand.

I have nothing but praise for Michelin tires and have them on all of my vehicles and motorcycle. Have used Michelin for at least the past 20 years and have never had any problem.

Did the dealer say what was wrong with the tire? My first thought with a vibration problem is that a tire is out of balance. I am having good luck with Michelin tires so far.

The warranty is not void if you use non petroleum products like 303 Aerospace Protectant.

I have Michelin tires on my car, truck and 5th wheel, and never had a problem. Have used Armoral on all my tires and tire dealers have never told me not to use that product.

Hooker, I used Maguires Jet Black, it didn't say anything about petroleum, the tire dealer was a fellow car club member. He adjusted one failure, and Michilen rep refused to honor warranty. He told everyone to avoid using tire dressing on Mich tires. That was in mid 90s.

The only tires I use the 303 on are the RV tires, because they will die of old age before the tread wears out. My other vehicles get the stuff that makes them look good...and I don't care about the petroleum issue because the tread will be gone long before they start cracking and coming apart due to age.

The service write up states:

"LT FT tire failed road force and is vibrating. Checked road force and balance of LT and RT FT tires. LT FT tire failed at 81 lbs. OEM matched tire to attempt to bring within limits. Still failed at 74 lbs. Ordered replacement tire. Checked road force of new tire, passed at 36 lbs."

So what is "road force"? I didn't have a clue until I looked it up here: http://www.motorweek.org/features/go...orce_balancing

Thanks for the education! I never heard of "Road Force" in tire/wheel management. Now to find a place that uses this technology...

Tire Kingdom and a Firestone store did not know what I as talking about when asked about" Road Force Balancing ". The system and equipment must be relatively new. Good information for future purchases and balancing between tire replacements.

You also need to make sure they can do hub centric balancing if not the road force. Many places are not set up to do it as 98% of the vehicles on the road are lug centric. And while you 'might' get lucky with getting a hub centric wheel on a lug centric balance machine, it's not good odds.

EDIT: On second thought, maybe they have the system but call it by a different name. Did you describe the process to them?
