Onan vs Honda
I am new to the RV world and looking to install a generator (5500)into a 2955RL. When considering quiet and efficient running which is the best choice in this class of generator?

Welcome to the Forum!
Quiet = Onan
Efficient = Honda
If you are looking for a built in Propane powered, I do not believe Honda makes that type. You would have to go Onan, Generac, etc.

I don't think you can get a quiet Honda in a 5500. I have 2 Honda 2000's in parallel which will run everything I got and also have the portability if I need it.

The 4500 & 5500 hondas' have been discontinued you now have to go to the 6500 which will also give you a 220 plug. It also has the ability to throttle to the exact speed needed for power useage. No wasted fuel here.
HTH,
chuck
ps I've got the 5500 honda and love it so the 6500 would not be a problem if I was looking. Never had a problem with Honda, Onan has been having some problems.

Had to go look - used to be Honda stopped the 'quiet' inverter generators at 3KW; they now have the EU6500IS; 60db so your generator is quite a bit quieter than any commercial version out there. Quite heavy though; if you are looking for 'installed' I think you are limited to onan in today's market.
