Verizon cell and MiFi here and never had a problem. Verizon has the best coverage across the US overall for the cell phone(check out the coverage map on their site) and have had no problems with the MiFi either.

We have had Sprint and a couple other smaller companies services. We switched to Verizon Wireless and have found that their services provided us with phone service no matter where we've been. I think the only company that rivals Verizon is AT&T. But we've been many places where we had good service and AT&T was practically unuseable.

We have had AT&T for 8 yrs now and the only time we have not had a signal was in NH and NM in a volcano. Oh yes in Copper Falls State Park, WI but then neither did anyone else. We have found that people with Verizon and Sprint also had good signals. I think whatever you have is the best.

We have had Verizon for 11 years now and MIFI for about 3. When we were shopping for the best service Sprint appeared to have the best equipment and customer service, but their coverage area was sparce. They had no service where we had our stick house in Ohio. Out of curiosity I checked them out just before we sold our house this summer. Still no coverage in that area.

I think that Verizon could do well to improve the quality of their hardware and better train their customer service reps in problem solving. However, their coverage and signal strength has improved noticeably each year over the time we have subscribed. In spite of their shortfalls, we have no cause to switch cell service.

We haven't traveled in the eastern US, but we have traveled throughout the some of the southern states up through the Pacific Northwest (from the coast of Texas to Washington and Oregon states, for example). Home base is Montana. Our Verizon service has always been very good. I'm using my Verizon iPhone hot spot for my internet connection, too.

I see that a lot of you seem to be satisfied with Verizon, but I think that it must depend on where you travel. Although I am not a fulltimer or travelling the globe my opinion is this: I have both Verizon (work phone) and AT&T (personal phone)and they are both Blacberry's although different models. Several places we go in Texas the Verizon phone service is sketchy and the AT&T is great? Just my observation for what it is worth.

Verizon all the way..Stay away from AT&t bad service just about every where except major citys. Sprint, good only in city range.

We have had AT&T for several years while fulltiming and would hardly call their service bad, far from it. I do belive though that Verizon has better coverage

We live in Montana and AT&T can be very spotty up here yet Verizon has gotten almost through the entire state. I have had cell phones since the late 80s and have found Verizon to be THE BEST! From what I can tell, AT&T or Verizon are the only real options if you are going to travel throughout the US and of those two Verizon has the most coverage especially up north. Verizon offered the only coverage throughout Yellowstone National Park (with some areas not covered at all). Best of luck in your choices! I recently just got a new phone and found that after checking at multiple places Costco had the best price! I couldn't believe it! It was $60 cheaper than the other 3 stores I went to.

Here is an interesting read on the various cell providers and their offerings. These folks have put a lot of effort into their testing and you might be surprised at their recommendations.

It was an interesting article but I did notice that for their major data needs they rely on Verizon. The map was fascinating to me because of the coverage, or should I say the 'lack' of coverage in the northern states. So again it depends on where you are traveling but I think the moral of the story is that you can't really go wrong as long as you are with either AT&T or Verizon.

Good luck and have fun with your new gadgets!
