They should be an S637 ST for trailers.

I took the 5er strait from the dealer to the tire shop to have the Sailun tires installed, 43 miles. The bill was under $800 and he gave me $30 for each of the 5 Rainier tires.
Which one did you go with and do they measure a tad taller?

I just want to replace the Rainier tires with the Sailun’s that are best, 235/80/16 G rated same size on my Montana now.

Anyone ever look into these?

A YouTube family I follow put these on their rig, both rim and tires, thinking this may be a better option if we start to tow more often.... right now we stay out on each trip 1.5 week to 3 weeks, and do 3-4 per year maybe adding one more trip next year.

YouTube families get paid or free things to use in exchange for free advertising.

The 235/80 are fine. I bought the 235/85 simply as they were only 3 months old and $10 less per tire at the time. The 80 is about the same size as the Rainier. The 85 is .9" taller and raises the trailer almost 1/2".

Why 19.5" tires unless you want to raise the trailer almost 2". Sounds like a big expense to gain nothing over the Sailun that have a great rep compared to an unknown?

I think what you see is everybody's different interpretation what you wan't is the S637 ST
The ST just stands for specialty trailer app. means they are for trailers only.

My tire shop was also surprised that I wanted my Sailun's balanced stating that I was the first person to ever ask. They did balance them for me.

Because they've always done it (not balanced) that way, or they've heard an urban legend that it's not necessary. However, if you've ever passed a trailer and observed a very out of balance tire hopping up and down, it becomes clear that balancing is, at the least, not a bad thing.

I brought mine to the local RV dealer and asked to have my Sailun's mounted and balanced ( made sure they had the lug centric set up ) I got it home and went to put my sensors on and they were at 80psi....then noticed there were no weights on the rims ( inside ) When I went back to complain they said they never balance rv tires . This even though I specifically asked for them to . I will be removing one side ( with the leveling jacks ) and bringing them to a tire shop for balancing . Also noticed where the tire machine at the dealer obviously had a bad plastic cover on one of their pads and it left scrape marks on the inside of all 4 rims ! Not a happy camper !

I always have my tires balanced and filled with nitrogen. Many shops do not balance trailer tires as a matter of course. I think it goes back to the horse and buggy days.

I've always had my trailer tires balanced whether rv, lowboy, or utility trailer.I bought a new set of hi-spec wheels for the rv and had the wheels balanced with weights on both sides of the wheels as the weights are silver lead and blend in with my silver aluminum wheels. Wheels balance better with weights on both sides but most people prefer weights only on the inside for cosmetics. As for as nitrogen, with sailuns and good clean wheels you won't lose over 2 or 3 pounds of psi per year and many places don't handle nitrogen so i feel this is not needed. Only ones that push nitrogen is new car dealers so they can make a considerable profit on your purchase.

I had trouble finding a tire shop to work on our 5er to change tires.
I finally asked a Commercial Tire Shop and they no problem with all and balanced without any question.

maybe thats the way to go?

I found it easier to just remove the tires, and take them to the tire shop, get the new ones mounted ,and balanced. No worries they are going to jack the trailer up in the wrong place on the axles, plus most can't accommodate a large fifth wheel.

We are lucky here in Lake Havasu City AZ. We have hundreds of RVs here and the local Discount Tire Store know how to handle them. They know where to jack them up, always recommends balancing and have lug centric equipment. I just deal with Discount but asking arround just about all tire shops here do the same. My guess is if you are in an area where there is a large concentration of RVs the tires shops know how to take care of them.

On the subject of balancing trailer tires. Why in the world would you not balance them? Balancing does at least 3 things that come to mind. 1 improves the ride. 2 reduces wear and tear on the running gear and all other parts of the rig. 3 eliminates low spots created by the tires bouncing down the road. These low spots or some call then pot marks result in premature tire wear. There is no difference for the need to balance between the Truck and trailer. Both are going the same speed so if one needs balancing both need to be balanced.
Just saying is all.

While I agree with you 100% have you ever wondered why they are not balanced on new trailers ? My new Sailuns that will be installed next week will be balanced.

New Sailuns

I looked at the Sailun tires five years ago when I put new tires on the Monte but decided to go with Firestone Transforce since that is what I ran on the old Monte and my TV. Time to replace so I asked my tire shop guy what he thought about the Sailuns and he said that he had put many of them on commercial trailers and never had an issue or complaint. So I ordered them and had them put on, bearings packed and am ready to take off to Tennessee next week. $653 out the door. I kept the old tires and put on Craigslist. Sold them to a guy for his utility trailer for $250. They looked brand new with minimal cracking on the side. He was happy, I am happy. Tire shop suggested only running 80 psi even though we have the 110lb wheels. They said at my gvw if I ran 110lb my 5er would bounce quite a bit. Will see how it runs up the mountain and report back.
