Paypal Scam

Got an email last night, looked very official, purportedly from PayPal telling me that their records showed my Discover card ending in XXXX (it was the right last four numbers) had expired. Only problem is that card doesn't expire for another two years. Isn't it wonderful what a crook and his computer can do.

I also received one a short while back.. and received one about iTunes this morning..

I always check the "message source" on emails like this to find who sent it to me. The one from iTunes.. which also looked official, and they always do, came from Italy. Ploonk, Into the JUNK file. However, I kept this one and am trying to contact Apple (iTunes) to see if they want a copy before I actually delete it..

If I may.... All of our financial institutions always remind us not to answer/respond to any email. To simply go directly to the financial site and then determine if they really are trying to make a connection with you.

So, that has been my mode of operation. Ok. Back to the regular scheduled commenting...

My PayPal was actually hacked a few months back. Coincidentally, it was linked to our Discover card. A fraudulent purchase of an IPhone was made in Texas and shipped to California. I contacted PayPal and Discover. Discover immediately removed the transaction. PayPal had to investigate it for several days before removing it. Interestingly, I read on the PayPal sight how all transactions are cross checked for the same shipping address as is on the account file. I no longer keep a valid credit card on file at PayPal. Should I need to use the account in the future, I will update it then.

I tried to use PayPal a few years ago. Had a problem and cancelled everything, never used it. I still get email (from somebody) saying my "account" has a problem.
