leak pan

Before I install the new washer/dryer combo in our 3400RL, DW wants to know if I'm going to put down some kind of a leak pan under it. We all know the closet is only 24"x24", so what I am asking is has anyone else installed any kind of a drip pan under there washers?

I went to a sheet metal shop and had a pan made for my washer/dryer. I had a drain pipe braised in the bottom and put a piece of hose on it so it'll drain outside. I bought a moisture alarm from Lowes and put it in the bottom of the pan so if the washer leaks, the alarm will go off.

Thanks Jim, when you drilled down through the floor and the under belly covering, you didn't have any abstructions in the way? The hose went stright through?

When we ordered the Splendide stack-ables I ordered the drain pan made out of plastic. Our washer closet is next to the door. The drain hose is drilled between the wall and the I beam. So the hose is outside the I beam and no tanks were at risk.

The different between Jim's and our drain pan is this drain pan has three edges and the front edge is separate. I is is installed and sealed with caulk after it is in place. This allows the washer to be slide in or out instead of having to lift over the "lip". The drain pan will only protect for washer leaks in the bottom. Any leak from the drain pipe or hoses have the potential of still getting water all over.

Good luck and good questions.

Terry,
My washer is up front next to the front closet. I drilled a 2 inch hole in the floor and then had to snake a hose to the propane compartment and down the front leg.

We do not have a drain tray under ours. It has been used a lot for 6 years and no problem even when we forgot to open the gray tank.
Happy trails.................

Drain Pan???????
Drain pan, spill pan, drip pan, catch pan, what ever you wish to call it. Keeps the floor from getting wet when something leaks and drains to the outside. Hence- drain pan.

We have one under ours. The drain is on the right and goes into the storage compartment then through the floor.

We bought a plastice drain pan for our Splendide w/d combo. In addition we took the carpet out of the compartment. No problems with spills yet.
