Reese Hitch
I have a Reese 16K hitch for my Montana. Just bought the trailer (used) and it came with the hitch that only pivots front to back. Would it be a good idea to get the hitch that swivels both ways? I was thinking about frame flex, and stressing the pin box too much. Thanks!

I think it is just good sense to have anvil that moves all 4 axis. We sometimes will get to areas that the trailer is pitching one way the truck is on another level. Case in point is my driveway, when I back off the street at a 45 degree angle to my driveway which has an upward slope the TV is still out in the street on level ground. You can actually see the Anvil on the 5th wheel tilt.

In a word Yes, it is especially handy hooking and unhooking when your Montana and TV are not on level ground.

You might want to look at the new signature series Reese hitches to replace your 16k hitch. Were well pleased with ours.

I see that the hitch probably should be changed out by discussion. Now I need to know if my rails for the 16K can be used for other Reese hitches. Are the Reese rails all the same..I don't want to pay twice for installation...thanks again!

About a year ago I installed a Reese hitch with 2-way (or is it 4-way???) swivel. I ordered over the internet from Reese and used the existing rails in my truck without any difficulty. At about the same time I had a TrailAir pin installed on the trailer--at the factory in Goshen where the installation was supervised by Dale, the owner and inventor.

Montana Rog -
There are several Reese hitches that will fit your existing rails (running parallel in the bed). There are also several other brands (Air-Ride) that will fit your rails. The Reese Signature Series will not fit the rails and requires a whole new installation including the truck kit (rails run parallel in the bed).
Reese also just introduced an 18K Select Plus that uses the Signature Series head but fits on the older style rails like what you should have. The new head has some nice features such as the wider plate and a more positive lock system.

The Select Plus 18K fits the rails running across the bed. All that run front to back are the Signature Series.
