Plumbing Help

Last night we were hooked up to city water. Tonight we are using our fresh water tank. Since I unhooked the city water connection this morning, that connection has been leaking. After we filled the fresh water and turned on the pump, it continued leaking. As you know, that makes the pump cycle even if we aren't using water.

Help! What is going on? How do I fix it?

John

John-- Sounds to me that the little one way valve on the shoreline hookup has either malfunctioned or has stuck open. That would be my guess but then who am I to know what is going on with these things!!

Is the city water switch in the fill position or the city water position? Also is the hot water switch in the bypass position? They should be in the City water (not Fill) position, and the hot water should not be in the bypass position. If both of these are correct, you probably have a check valve leaking or not working.

Yep, that's a check valve problem. You might want to try reconnecting the city water to it and pressure cycle to see if it will reseat.
1) Reconnect city water connection, leave city water off
2) Turn off water pump
3) Open a faucet to drain off pressure, close it once water stops
4) Open city water valve, listen for pressure to equalize when sound stops, turn back off
5) Disconnect city water allowing pressure to bleed off
6) Turn on water pump...

Thanks for the replys. We are parked near a water supply but I won't be able to use it until later this morning. I'll let you know what happens.

You can also screw in the air valve to "cap" the city water leak as a temporary fix.
Good luck,

As H. John Kohl says if reseating is unsuccessful. That valve is an easy DIY replacement job.

It appears connecting the city water fixed the problem. I followed the steps noneck suggested. We really appreciate your help. I do have a further question--what do you mean when you say "screw in the air valve to 'cap' the city water leak" John?

This is a different John replying. What he is refering to is the blow out plug you screw into the water lines to blow out the water before winterizing. It has male threads and a valve stem like on your tires.

Thanks, John M. Appreciate the info. Will keep that in mind if the problem happens again later.
