I was trying to find thread where someone moved there toilet back about 3-4 inches close to the wall. How was the floor finished out and what fittings were used ? Thanks for any information.

Hmmm! Sounds like the same problem I have. Can't get my big feet in there when I have my shoes on, and have to curl the toes when I don't. That would be an interesting mod.

I just finished moving mine back this weekend 3.5" it is an eazy mod. I took up the toilet cut the 3" pipe in the basement and put a fernco fitting in the pipe. all my pipe had to do was swing back you may have to redo yours a little different. when I recut the floor I could see a little of the cut in the floor. I cut a pc of oak board from lowes and put it under the toilet. looks real good and the mod sounds alot harder than it is. It is more room than you think. bobby

Sounds like someone needs to come up with a slider hitch for the toilet.

Now, **that** is a great idea. And make the toilet self-cleaning while at it.

All those mods to a toilet will convert it into a swiveling throne.

Seriously, will a standard toilet seat fit whats in the Monty? I want to get one of those that closes slowly.

Boy, my kind of topic. My wife just commented on how close she thought the wall was compared to our SOB. She never realized, after having it for 5+ years, that I always left the door open when I was sitting. But seriously folks....

Our 2008 has a heat register in the floor which already seems to encroach just under the toilet. If I move it back farther it will definitely cover up part of the register, unless I shift the toilet to the side as well as back.

Joe-n-Doe,
I think you were asking if a standard toilet seat will fit in the Monty. After reading on the forum that it would I just changed mine out this week to a regular bowl seat like the home type. The holes in the Sealand Monty toilet are 5 1/2" oc just like the home type. You will need the standard version not the elongated bowl model. The seat I picked up at ACE Hardware has a new designed bolt system. Looks like the old caps over the screws are gone. They use a sliding cover.

Thanks JB...I just changed stool seats at the stick house and your right, the bolt system has changed. I need to swap out the OEM one in Monty for the kind that slowly closes. Nothing worse than the banging sound when the loose kind drop.

Does anyone worry about cracking the toilet bowl if the seat is accidentally dropped. I don't know how thick the porcelain is, or how playfull the grand kids are.

Jwedell,
I had not thought of that. Others have changed out their seat and haven't reported any problems. An option might be to add some rubber bumpers under the seat to take up some of the shock of a sudden drop of the seat.

Our toilet was also out from the wall too far. We moved our toilet back approx. 3 inches. I took the toilet off, cut a piece of plywood the size of the hole and glued it in to fill in the hole in the floor. Then I screwnailed and glued another piece of plywood 12 inches square underneath the floor where it was going to be recut. This was to give the floor some extra strength. The toilet flange is still long enough to go through the hole even with the extra piece of plywood underneath. I then measured back from the wall, marked the floor where I wanted the new hole and cut it out with a jigsaw. I had to fool around a little bit with the sewer line hookup with some different fittings to make it work but eventually got it glued back in solid. I had to cut the toilet supply line a little to make it fit as it was a little too long. I then re-installed the toilet and you wouldn't believe what a difference it makes. It sounds hard but it is really an easy mod. Good luck.
