Suburban Furnace
Just when I needed it the most, the Furnace in my 07 MOUNTAINEER decided to make an awful noise.
Sounds like the blower motor is rubbing on something ? I thought maybe something jarred loose as we are on the road for Christmas Break. I took the front off and it's hard to see anything, but it sure making a racket....
any suggestions ??????

I can make one suggestion. When we went to use our furnace one Fall, it made a heck of a racket. Come to find out mud daubers had built a mud hut (duh!!) in the furnace. They came in through the furnace vent. If you've ever seen one their huts, they're made out of mud that dries hard. That's why we use furnace vent covers.
This may/may not be your problem but that's what I suspect. It will work its way out if you let the furnace run (I think because ours die.

Thanks Ove for the reply.....My problem SOUNDS like the blower fan is rubbing on something. We have been traveling for the past week on Christmas vacation, will put somewhere around 2,000 miles on before we get home.

Somebody posted last year that they had actually caught a mouse in the fan and killed it dead.

On a 2007, doubt that it is worn, like bad bearings, but could be rubbing the sides of the blower housing. If a guy could pull it out and check it, you might be able to bend the blower wheel and align it. I have changed out a thousand of them, many times I had to true them in the housing.
It could be a foreign item in there as well. Killed dead, eh Brad?....

Thanks OZZ...I am thinking that the FAN it is rubbing the sides of the housing, possibly jarred loose. I have the front off the unit, but the fan seems to be in the BACK...would I need to pull the unit OUT to get to the fan ?

Mystery Solved...Pulled the heater, a piece of paper caught in the fan cage...gave me a chance to clean up all the left over saw dust and mess left from the factory.
ONE QUESTION how much extra heat would I pick up in the coach if I blocked the basement vent ?

I wouldn't block the basement vent. You really need heat down there if you are in freezing weather.

Glad to hear you had a simple fix, rather than an expensive one!
I agree with Orv and Ozz, even if it isn't freezing outside I think the heated belly helps maintain the comfort level in the occupied spaces above.

I just had my furnace repaired for the rubbing noise--they had to pull the unit and they found that when the blower started it was pulling the upper metal down on to the blower--I am not sure what they did to stop it but I would think that maybe a small piece of aluminum angle iron could be pop riveted to the top to hold it rigid--

I'm glad to hear you figured it out, and cheaply.
I'm not sure which vent you mean.

Steve...
The air flow as you get in the bathroom and especially the bedromm...is very, very poor. I put adjustable floor vents on to be able to help by shutting down the front 2 vents ( not completely ) I shut the bathroom COMPLETELY and hope to get some measure of HOT AIR from the bedroom vent.
I live and Camp in SUNNY CALIFORNIA, and I was wondering if I SHUT down the HOT AIR FLOW going to the belly IF I might increase the Air Flow to the INSIDE of the coach....

Wow! I have just the opposite. Strong air flow in the bedroom and very poor in the kitchen and living room. Makes me wonder!

Makes one wonder how much debris may have dropped into the vents during construction. I found all kinds of junk in mine, from scraps of vinyl flooring to pieces of cut lumber along with lots of sawdust. Cleaned what I could and that seemed to help the air flow.
Use of a mirror helps to inspect the vents. Cleaning them is a bit of a challenge. If you have a fish tape, you can use that to run a line between the bedroom vent and the kitchen vent so you can pull a rag through. Anyone else tried to do this and have any better ideas???
