break-in period for chevy?

I still don't have the truck or books yet but I was told by the sevice mgr and mechanic no break-in period needed for the Dmax.
I know that Steve R had a 500 mile on the Dodge megacab he just bought. Rich just finished putting on 500? before he hooked onto his Monty.

Chevy d/a owners, Is this true no break-in needed before towing?

I know there is a break-in for the engine. But for towing I thought there would be a recommended break-in period/milage etc.
I just want to break it in correctly and have good results.
thanks
chuck

dscott, thanks that's sounds right. I figure he didn't ask or they didn't look it up as I was on the phone with them. This whole truck has been bought over the phone. I've never met this saleman or dealership. Though to tell the absolute truth I drove this truck twice before the dealer traded to this dealer 3 1/2 hr away. It proved to be better deal for me.
thanks
chuck

Remember also that it is very important to remove the Ford listed in your signature and replace it with the new truck in order to give the conversion it's proper due!!!! LOL!!!

I agree but I can only do this once I pickup the truck. As part of the deal they're ordering and putting on the "camper style mirrors" or the largest ones they make today.

So I am guessing it's going to be a week or 2 before it's ready to go. Maybe I'll add to the sig since we're still keeping the "old f350" "new 3500".

You never know maybe the "old" truck will pass on intelligence to the "new" truck like our pets do when we bring them into the family.-)))

Delaine & Lindy since you have the trail saver hitch on your 3500 does it eliminate the chucking & or bucking from the 5th?
DW has severe neck problems and usually travels with neck pillow on as we drive.
thanks

I think it is important to break in the READ GEAR properly, I think Dodge recommended 50 mph and below towing the first 500 miles. LONGEST 500 MILES I EVER DROVE. Katy bar the door, when I hit that 500 mile on the odometer. DW looked in shock, as we took off like a rocket!!!!! and I had the BIGGEST DARN SMILE ON MY FACE.....

21/2 years ago when I got my Slverado, the dealer never mentioned anything to me about breakin that I can remember. He did say that when I brought it back in for the first service at 5K miles, they wanted to service the tranny and rearend. However, it wasn't til about 10k miles that I really put her under a hard load.

That was 49k miles ago. This thing is still getting better running all of the time!

GM claims the first 500 miles should be done varying speeds and without towing any loads. After the first 500 miles, the next 500 miles can be done towing, but not to exceed 55 mph. After you get 1,000 miles on it, tow at any and all speeds.

I ran both of my Duramax's 500 miles empty, then towed and drove as normal. Had 50,000 miles on my 03 before it was totaled and have over 80,000 on my 04...no problems with either truck.

That's what the manual says.

Side note on the truck. I remembered you saying in another post it had ALL the options but sun roof and something else.
IF you have Dual Alternators option on it, put a Serpentin belt on order now as a spare. At the last check with the dealer, only 4 dealers in the US had them in stock. I have always carried one in years past for my old trucks and with dual alternators i sure do not think the standard auto parts dealers would have one. Then i found out there scarce even with GM Dealers.

That must be a pretty tough belt, the manual says to change it at 150,000 miles.

Let's see, averaging 10,000 miles a year.....hmmmm......I think I will wait 6 or 7 years to buy the spare belt....that way if it only lasts half as long as the manufacturer thinks it will, I should be covered!! By the way, out of curiosity, what does this belt cost???
