Fuel Efficient TV

I decided to sell my 2006 Duramax 3500 SRW and use a more fuel efficient tow vehicle for our 13,975 pound 3400RL.

Since we are going full time, I looked around and decided that I didn't need two vehicles and what with the Envoy XUV just taking up space in storage, opted to outfit our second vehicle (now our primary vehicle).

The key to this Envoy is that the roof retracts. Remember the commercials of a couple of years ago touting the versatility of the roof retraction system? Well, with a sliding hitch, we don't have any problems and since the engine is the classic, fuel efficient Vortec V6, I expect we'll get somewhere around 16-18 mph.

The best part is the ride - it is so smooth, it is like a car!

For all of you out there looking for a new tow vehicle, I suggest you look around for a good, used Envoy XUV.

Can you mount a Trailer Saver hitch on the back of a Trek 10 speed? Bonnie's, not mine!

Isn't that an oxymoron, "Fuel Efficient TV"? You had me going when I read the title. I just had to open it and see who had found a fuel efficient TV. Love it!!

Mike, The voice of experience speaking here. Just two weeks ago I attempted to hitch up just like in your picture with a Ford explorer. Ya gotta get these things just right. It only cost $2300 to replace the back window and repair the tail gate and tail lights. I gotta confess here, or else when Bonnie tells it, she'll make you think that I don't pay attention to where I'm backing. (I refused to come clean until Bonnie read this and threated to blow me in!)

Michael, you don't say what year your Envoy is but looking at the specs for a 2005 Envoy XUV the towing capacity is only 6,000#s in the 2WD version with the Inline 6 cylinder and the GCWR (combined weight rating for both your Envoy and Monty together) is limited to only 11,000. (Your Monty weighs more than that by itself!)

You are severely overloading your TV (IMHO) and I fear risking disaster.

I really feel that you should at least invest in a good pair of extension mirrors though!!!!!!

The post was submitted 04/01 - April Fools! Just so that no one takes me seriously...

On a serious note, I did take delivery of a 2007 Classic GMC duallie, today. Woo Hoo!

If you have the Envoy loaded you could use your 'trailer tote' I remembered this photo from long ago - not sure who it is from but thought it sure would come in handy one day. Don't know about fuel economy but the 5th wheel dolly is now commercially available - TrailerLife mag had an ad for it this past month.
