We hoping to be in Arizona next spring....

near Phoenix, specifically Sun City where my brother has a condo. I know that there is a nice resort called El Mirage very near Sun City. But I've heard that the jets from Luke AFB fly over the resort. This will not work with our traveling wimp, Greta. She is deathly afraid of loud noises. Does anyone have any other suggestions for a place to stay for two months out of the path of the jets?

She'll get accustomed to it..if you've never seen it, watch the "Dog Whisperer" on the Discovery channel; he's got it right.....exercise, discipline and then affection, but always IN THAT ORDER. Got to love the Sound of Freedom!! After living 12 years on an Air Force Base, I still miss that sound, and that was twelve years ago!

Now, for the more specific bits....we stayed East of Phoenix, in Mesa. Scads of fine RV Resorts. Also, as I recall, there are some near Goodyear, West of Phoenix. There are alos some to the South of the Interstate. Look in the Campground Reviews link on the Forum.

Good Luck!

There are lots of RV parks in and near the Phoenix area. We stayed at Silveridge RV Resort in Mesa. If you go there, they have a special (or did) not generally advertised. First time visitors got two weeks for the price of one or three nights for $10 each. Full hookups. Very nice place.

There are tons of rv parks in that area and east of there, south of there, etc.

We're thinking Sedona for Jan/Feb of '08, possibly. Sedona RV Resort was recommended to us. But that's closer to Flagstaff than to Phoenix. I think a lot of our members have been to Apache Junction, east of Mesa.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

Thanks for the hints. I know that there are lots of resorts in the area which is what makes it hard to pin down a good one.

P.J. and Nan, Greta will not get used to it. She has a mortal fear of loud noises and we don't want to put her under that stress. She is a very sensitive person, I mean, dog.

Judy,
I have friends in the marina that have a condo in Sun City West. They head down every year around October and come back up in time for boating again in May. I may just see you down there this winter. They have been after me for some time now to come down and stay for a visit. This year it might just happen.

Judy,
My truck is 2 years old and I have almost 57,000 miles on it. I wont even begin to tell you how many air miles I rack up in a given year. =) If I do make it to Sun City this winter it will be by air, as when I get home from the rally the coach is going straight into the garage for winter. =) See ya soon~

Judy, We will be in that area late Jan. Maybe we could meet up? I'm sure there will be several MOC folks staying warm in AZ. Looking forward.

Dave, your truck will last a lot longer than that. Just 57k? Mine is 1 year and 9 months old and has 62,000 on it. But, if you have free air miles, then that makes lots of sense.

Judy, No matter where you go in that area you will have the jets from Luke flying. It is not that bad. We have stayed at Sunflower RV Resort In Surprise as my dad lives in Sun City West. The jets flew just to the South of us in morning and afternoon, but were not that loud. I can't speak to El Mirage except they do have a nice golf course.

Thanks for that info, Dave and Carla. I thought that would probably be the case. Don't know what we'll do. I'd hate to have a neurotic dog going crazy from the sound of jet planes.

sreigle, Sedona can be pretty chilly in the winter. The have a ski hill in Flagstaff! We were in Prescott in late Oct. 2 years ago, and all the water in the Campground froze, so we decided to move south! Watching temps from Yuma, Flagstaff is usually the coldest part of Az.!

Hmmm, SMC, we'll have to give that some more thought. We're ok with nights in the thirties or even upper 20's and daytimes in the 50's and above for part of the time but having the park's water freezing up would make me rethink that destination. Thanks.

Dont you worry Steve the truck might have 57K on it now, by the time I get home from the rally it will be well over 62K. I am having a hard time keeping up with you... =)

Dave, mine is at 62,500 now, so you're going to have to pick up the pace.

There is an RV Park at Lake Pleasant. It is approximately 15 miles north of Sun City. I don't know anything about it other than what I have seen from driving by it. It is called Pleasant Harbor RV Resort. 602-269-0077. I have never been aware of any jets when I have been on the lake.

Thanks for that tip, Idunning. I'll check it out. It would make Greta very happy....no jets!
