Steve, yes I have a Prodigy controller, I was wondering if I had it set too high? If you could find some numbers I would appreciate that, not that I don't believe you. I trust your knowledge completely, just was looking for some numbers. Thanks Steve

Larry, Mike's numbers sounds close to where ours was at. I'll do a search and edit this post with that info soon as I find it.

Larry, below is a copy/paste of the text from that other post:
-----
Weight probably has a lot to do with it. Our 3295RK weiged 13,980 at last weighing (admittedly quite awhile back). I moved from boost 2 to boost 3 because I figured in an emergency stop I want as much initial stopping power as possible. 2 is probably fine for most rigs.

For a year or so I ran ours on 7. When I had the brakes checked by our selling dealer he told me I had the brakes cranked down too tight. The linings were only half worn after about 20,000 miles but the magnets were nearly worn off at a 45 degree angle and the linings had some heat stress cracks. I backed off to 6.0 but didn't think it stopped as well as I'd like so moved it slowly up to about 6.3 or 6.5. I've forgotten now exactly what the setting was and no longer have the Prodigy to check the setting. On the current truck's integrated controller (essentially a Prodigy from what I understand) I have it set at 7.5. Hopefully I'm not stressing the trailer brakes but the controller uses the computer to match trailer braking to truck braking so I think we're ok.
------------

That post is in the thread the following link takes you to. There's several replies listing how others set their Prodigy.

Steve

Thanks for the info. and to all who replied. I'm going to check to see if the brake shoes are adjusted up. Hope someday our paths will cross so we can meet you both. Happy Camping

I did read one small item in the Prodigy literature. When you are getting your Montana prepped for summer the dealer will usually test the emergency trailer brakes which are activated by the cable from your pin that you attach to the truck. This cable activates the trailer brakes in case the fiver disengages. The Prodigy info says to make sure that you disconnect the Prodigy before activating the trailer brakes by pulling on the emergency cable. I suppose this can be done by disconnecting the umbilical but it may be missed in many cases. Just the 849th thing to remember for the care and feeding of Montanas.
