Need Advice on a Mattress

We have had a great year in our Mountaineer this year. It is the first full year that we had it and did 54 nights! Not bad for part timers

One thing that we noticed is the stock matress on the Queen bed is uncomfortable. Since we spend almost every weekend it can wear on you. Beside the shades, it is the only thing we don't love about the unit.

I have looked at the sleep number bed on the Camper Worlds web site but I'm too cheap to lay out the cash for a part-time unit.

Has anyone had experience with the Eurotop mattresses? Are there other brands that we should be looking at?

I appreciate the help!!

We bought a 4" memory foam topper from Overstock.com for about $100. I trimmed the corners to fit the contour of the mattress with an electric knife. A 1000% improvement over the OEM mattress.

If there's a brand you like for your stick home, think about the same brand for your RV. We got a home style pillowtop mattress for ours from one of those standard mattress stores. If you need a short size, most will build to your specified size, at no cost. At least they did for our 2003 3295RK which required the short queen. This 2007 3400RL has a standard queen mattress from the factory so any queen will fit. If you have the King with the rounded corner, good luck. That's one reason we didn't order the King. We'd never be able to find a replacement and we have yet to like the standard RV mattress shipped with our rigs.

We got by with the 2-in memory foam, and it makes a huge difference. We did like Charlie and custom fit it with an electic knife.

The only downside is it makes the bed too high to fit under the little side shelfs by the bed. we just kind of cram everything under those when we get done. I never really looked to see if they can be removed and relocated.

We also bought 4" foam topper from JC Penney (about $100). We sleep great, but it did make the bed too high for our dogs to jump on! A lot cheaper fix than buying all new mattress, anyway.

Costco has a good topper it is 2 1/2" thick memory foam with a 1 1/2" fiber pillow top. We love it.

We simply took the new 15 inch thick queen out of the stick house and put it the Big Sky. Works great and just like sleeping at home. The lack of a box spring makes no difference at all. We fought that same battle all last year in our SOB and when we got the Big Sky the mattress was the same size and brand that we had in the SOB.It was garbage and about 4 inches thick. It went from the trailer to the dump. The cost of the new mattress was about a grand which is cheaper that the air number and this one will NEVER leak. We check on the space beds and they were twice as expensive as out new one. JMHO.... Dave and Betsy

Like others here have done, we took the queen pillow top out of our stick house and used it in the Montana, works great feels great. We originally had the King in the Monty so I had to cut down the sides of of the plywood under the bed in the Monty. We now have more room to get around in the bedroom and make the bed.

I can't figure out how to get an 80 inch long queen mattress to fit in our 75 inch King space. Would love to be able to take the mattress out of the stick house.

On edit, we had to make another trip to the winterized Monty outside. Our bed is a long 79 inch, not 75 as I thought. Guess an 80 inch will fit and Montana says it is putting in 80 inch mattress. That makes me feel better as I want to replace the mattress.

You can try the topper. It might work for you. We tried the 2 inch topper first. Still had backaches. Then tried the 4 inch topper. Still had backaches. Bought a new mattress. End of backaches. I think you will just have to decide for yourself. At least it is cheaper to try the topper first.

Illapah, if 80 inches is a standard queen length then it ought to fit in your 2007. Ours came with a standard queen and we bought an off the shelf queen mattress to replace it and have no problems. It is the same length as the old one. Is the OEM King a shorter one with a shorter plywood shelf, or something?

Steve, I think that the base length for the mattress is the same as the one for the queen but wider. Actually, the top (head end) of the plywood is just queen sized in ours. I was surprised that it was not supporting the entire mattress. The rounded corners may present a problem in King size mattress to miss the bathroom sink assembly.

Illapah, ours is the standard queen length and we put an aftermarket home-style queen on there with no problem. Exactly the same length as the original. Maybe the 3295RK is different in that respect to the 3400RL.

Steve, I was the one in error. Our first (2955) had a 75 inch long mattress. Our current has a king but the rounded corners are a must to clear the bathroom sink cabinet. Don't know if I want to give up the king for a Queen which I belive will fit with no mods.

I just ordered a solid foam mattress from these guys.
http://www.wallacesalesinc.com/group...&category_id=2
They make a 60" x 75" RV queen size.
I have a memory foam topper I will be putting on top of this mattress.

We did the same thing for our last TT only we bought it on ePay. When we bought Monty we transferred it. Works great!
