Tail gate weights.

I took off my factory tailgate today and put on my aluminum louvered gate. I weighed them both on a digital scale.

2005 F350 Lariat F350 SRW Factory TailGate ............ 51 pounds

Powder Coated aluminum louvered tailgate. I have had this tailgate for 6 years and it opens and closes like a regular gate. The powder coated paint is so tough, it has not worn off the two latches. I don't know the brand name but I bought it at a Cap-it store in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
It weighs............................................ ..... 38 pounds.

Someone made a claim that factory gates were so much heavier than Fiver gates and I just thought I would let Rich know he was a little out on his estimate. Chuckle Chuckle........ Don.

Ours is plastic or PVC which I know are pretty much the same or are the same. I know our louvered one weighs much less than our factory tail gate. I have no idea how heavy our Chevy tail gate was/is?

We had an accident first trip out before we pulled out of the driveway at home and the pin box hit the tail gate. If it weren't for our Pullrite Superglide it would have hit the bed rails. That's why we now have the fifth wheel louvered tail gate.

Ok..Re: Tailgate weights. We did NOt weigh the OEM tailgate when we removed it but it seemed heavy. We based the weight of the custom flow tail gate on the shipping weight of 58 lbs and figured the 'Box" weighed at least 3 lbs therefor the tailgate 55 lbs..Had nothing better to do over the weekend (right) so here are the results after the weigh in. Actual weight of the custom flow tailgate 34 lbs, (The GBL said 58 lbs, shipping was free to me) Actual weight of the OEM tailgate was 57lbs.( it has the spray on liner on it) I was surprised at how light the OEM gate was.I would have guessed at least double that. So the difference in weight is negligible.

My OEM tailgate "feels" at least twice as heavy as my Custom Flow tailgate. I would have to say the numbers Rich found seem right in the ball park. My OEM tailgate also has the spray in liner on it as well.
