We like South Texas the RGV. We stay out at a park on Highway 100 the road to Padre Island. It is not fancy but nice. Short drive to the Island and a short drive to shopping. Parks in South Texas have a lot of entertainment as a few entertainers from Branson, Missouri winter there. We try to be social bugs and that keeps us moving. If their is something going on at another park you can usually get in on the fun as there is a monthly paper that list all the RGV parks happenings.

We like central FL in the winter months due to lack of cold weather (generally), humidity, and rain. Ave temp in January is 70-75.

I know it's not fair, but we live near beach in Southern California, and have for the past 40 years. We just don't have to get away. No bugs, no wind, mild rain, and everything is paid for so we're living our retirement dream.

It's during the summers we head out your way to visit the sights and relatives. For some odd reason they come to visit us over the holiday season....

Hey Carole:
We have been full timing for 8 years. We stay summers in Devon, Alberta, Canada and winters in Meridian RV at Apache Junction, AZ.
We usually spend about 2 months of the year travelling in our Montana.
We love Arizona in the winter. Our favorite park is, of course, Meridian RV in Apache Junction but on the way South our favorites are Bend/Sisters Garden RV 20 miles west of Bend, OR, and Terribles Lakeside Casino and RV in Pahrump, NV, just west of Las Vegas.
We have spent time in Texas around San Antonio or North of that at Lake Medina. Spent some time at South Padre Island but can not remember the park name. It is NOT the one across the causeway.
San Antonio is a must see ! We also spent time at Demming, N.M.,again I can not remember the park but it is North of town.
We also spend at least a week in March at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument park dry camping in southern Arizona. The desert is beautiful. Anyway, hope this helps. Happy trails. David

We winter in an RV park in the desert of S. CA. on the west shores of the Salton Sea. Closest community is Niland but we are a community of our own. The park is Fountain of Youth...www.foyspa.com if you want to check it out. It is remote, so if you like to eat out, go to movies and visit WalMart on a daily basis this is not your cup of tea. But if you like great people, tons of activites, quiet and temps in the low 70's from Dec-March with no humidity it is perfect. We came to visit and now we are in our 9th season here. Also nice is that we are 2 1/2 hours to LA, San Diego, Mexico and 5 to Vegas and Pheniox. Have fun exploring is all I can suggest, tht's what we did.

This will be our first year doing the winter in our Monte. Almost every year (for the last 30) we have spent at least 2 weeks during the winter in Florida, always south of Sarasota. We are staying at Siesta Bay RV Resort in Ft. Myers this year for 3 months. Three years ago we rented a condo for a month in South Padre Island, TX. We loved the area and loved crossing the border, but it was windy and generally about 50-60 degrees. So we will do Florida this year and think about doing Arizona next winter. Sorry we can't be more helpful on campground suggestions.

We have been going to Bushnell, FL, but decided to try Texas this year. We are at Bentsen Palms in Mission, TX. It's a smaller park, around 200 sites, and is about half the cost of FL., very reasonable! They have a lot of activities, and the people are very friendly. It does not have a pool, if your interested in that. There are restaurants, grocery stores, and shopping centers close. We have a cement pad, and orange and grapefruit trees on our site. We have asphalt roads and there is a bike trail real close.

Sugar, we spent several winters in Bushnell at Blueberry Hill and have also stayed at Paradise Oaks and still have several friends that still winter down there. Did you stay at either of these parks? The one you are in now sounds really good. We have wintered in Gulf Shores, AL for 8 years but considered going back to Paradise Oaks but it is much more expensive than Gulf Shores. We are only 250 miles from home, but our son lives down there, I can also take my car, I love the beach there and we have gotten close to many people down there. I still teach line dancing at the park so maybe when I get too old to teach we will try somewhere else.

Thanks to everyone for your information.

gkidsdlite, we have been going to Puerto Penasco (aka Rocky Point), Mexico for the last couple of years. It is located at the north end of the Sea of Cortez and about 65 miles south of the US border. It's very easy to get to, traveling south through Arizona and crossing at Lukeville. We have never experienced any issues with our safety and feel as safe here as in many of the major cities we travel in. There are several nice rv parks in the city, we stay at one named Playa Bonita. We are right on the water with an outstanding view looking out the back window at the water. The park is filled with american and canadian snowbirds. Shopping is no problem as there is a Sams Club, mexican Wal Mart and mexican Safeway. This year we will probably spend 6 weeks there after we do the Quartzsite rally and the Tucson Gem and Mineral show. Again, as for safety issues, quit reading the newspapers and talk to people whom are actually going to or have gone to Mexico recently before you make up your mind. And yes, there are definitely areas to stay away from just as in our good old USA. Do your research.

Thank you for the info and this is why I asked the question because I suspected there was someone on here with the answer. I have seen many pics of places in Mexico on the ocean that were beautiful. I envision a high cliff with our fiver backed up close but not to close to the edge and seeing beautiful sunsets with my wife. Thanks again and maybe I will be contacting you in the future for more of your insight!

We hve spent the past 2 winters in Rockport, TX at a small rv park called Rockport Country RV park. Real small but inexpensive and quiet and safe. This year we will be work camping at Goose Island State Park, only a few miles away.

Carole, we were at The Red Oaks for about 10 years. Since the park was bought out by a corporation, it is not the same. Each year they raise the price up and it's really changed. I played my keyboard at the jam in our park today. Many people came up and told me they really enjoyed it, so I pass the test!

Hi Carole, We fulltimed for almost 10 years. Spent the winters in Az and Texas. You need to experience all the different things each area has to offer.

Some good info here on Mexico http://www.mexicanconnection08.com/

Phoenix is busy, a large town, lots of traffic. Lots to see. Tuscon is like Phoenix only smaller and at a higher altitude, so it is cooler. You got to do Quartzite at least once. In AZ there are a huge number of parks to choose from. We stayed @ Voyager in Tuscon.

We enjoy Texas, found we are not coast people. Too much wind off the water and it is cool, if the wind is not blowing you get to play with the bugs. Bandera, west of San Antonio is a nice quite hill country town, small one grocery store and no Walmarts. However there are 3 all within 30 miles. A great gun range if you are into skeet, trap or targets. http://www.skylineranchrvpark.com/index.html

For the last 3 years have gone on further south to what they call "The RGV" Rio Grande Valley. There are more parks here than you can count. From some older less expensive, grass sites and close. To ones with huge concrete slabs and everywhere in between. Just depends on your needs, budget. We have settled in at a place called Ranchero Village in Weslaco. It is 55+ and has about 400 mobile homes and a separate section that has 105 RV sites. You will find that some parks have the mobile home, park models and RV's all mixed in together. http://www.rancherovillagecircle.com/

Probably one of the more expensive http://www.victoriapalms.com/index.html

We are about 6 miles from Mexico and is fun for walk across day trips, however this year we see some of the prices have gone up in the restaurants and pharmacy's. Still fun

We have considered Fl. since we have family there, but just too expensive for us. The PanHandle is reasonable but not far enough south.
