I found the maximum fifth wheel weight for my truck but so far I haven't found anything about the maximum pin weight.

We have a 2955RL that has a PW of around 1900 and that doesn't seem to stress the truck too much. But the 2955 may be totaled and I want to go with something a little larger. But how much larger is the question.

Thanks,
Russ

For a rough number, inside the door of the truck is a cargo capacity number associated with the tires - it's typically a rough calculation of gross weight minus expected truck weight. You have to subract you, passengers, fuel, and expected cargo to get the pin allowance, so to speak. My 2006 F350 CC SRW SB 4X4 is 3,750 on the sticker with a 7,000 lb rear axle.

The accurate way to find out is to actually weigh your truck, subract that weight from the published GVWR and subtract you, passengers, and cargo to get the available remaing cargo for the pin. I weighed mine and the end calculation was within 100 lbs of just using the cargo capacity number on the door sticker.

Hope that helps.

Sorry to hear about your totaled trailer. The 2001 Ford F-250 is one of thw worst trucks for carrying ability. With a GVW of only 8800# and the truck in access of 7200# it leaves very little for carrying capacity. With my 2880RL I was l000# over GVW on the truck and I carried nothing extra in bed. No chance of going to heavier Montana and staying within GVW ratings. I also had to get air bags for truck. Yes, it pulled it fine but was over my truck ratings. My trailer loaded weighrd around 10,600# with a pin weight of 2160#. The 2880RL has 3 slides so is heavier than the 2955 probably. The truck was 4x4, extended cab, diesel with 8800# GVW. Good luck.
