Will power
Passing up desert after dinner, in a fancy restaurant out on the town, (we all know how rich and tempting the deserts are there,) going back for seconds at the buffet, maybe quitting smoking.
Will power is just one of those things we call upon in the many challenges we encounter.
I remember as a child one of the first true tests of will power I was faced with. I bought a small bag of M&M’s, a small bag was all I could muster, so I wanted the handful to last as long as possible.
I sat under a tree in the shade, leaning my back against the trunk and closed my eyes.
I popped one in my mouth, rolled the sugar morsel around with my tongue, careful not to crunch down on it, I could feel it soften, the chocolate taste teasing my taste buds. I couldn't’t stand it any longer. it was my first, after all, I had so many left. So I crunched down. Oh, it was so good. The sugar and chocolate combination was exquisite.
The second, would be the one I would ‘go all the way with’. I was determined this time, I was just fooling around with the first M&M, I told myself. Well, the second did not last much longer than the first. I don’t think I succeeded with any of them. Some, I almost made it, but to this day, I just can’t do it.
The best I have done, is get to where the chocolate sticks in a little sugar embedded ball on the roof of my mouth, well, I have to crunch it now, don’t I? I might have to go to the Dr. and get medical attention, I wouldn’t want that………
