(sniff) Selling our beloved Montana - Montana Owners Club

Okay, we have come to a very difficult decision, but we've decided to sell our 2003 Montana. Is there a place we can post it here or does anyone have any suggestions for us? Right now we're just numb over the prospect of this. We also have a 2002 Ford F-350 Power Stroke (I think they put the Banks system on it) that we might sell as well.

I dont know where you could list ..I think there is RVtrader.com but I dont have any info on it. Can I ask why you are selling?

Bob had a stroke 10 years ago which left him partially paralyzed on one side. This means his left arm has to do the work of both arms and gets over used. He ends up with too much pain to justify going camping any more. It's really sad to give it up. We've been camping together for over 25 years now, but the pain takes away the fun. It's a nice rig, too.

Here is just a thought, are there any campgrounds near you where you can park your Montana and leave it, go there for weekends, etc.? Might be a way to extend your "Camping" years for a bit longer??

Life can take unfortunate and unexpected twists. Understanding our capabilities and learning to function within our limits can bring greater peace that trying to do otherwise. I commend you for making the hard decisions.

We really enjoyed backpacking, but have come to realize that we may have greater opportunities to enjoy the outdoors in the fiver. There may come a time when we see the need to move to a Class "C" or other rig, less labor intensive for set up, if we wish to remain on the road. Let me encourage you to take that creativity that you have and redirect it into new adventures.

Since you find yourself at this crossroads, you might try www.RVSearch.com. I think they charge about $60.00 for a listing.

maybee a seasonal site would be nice for a year or two....that's what we have been doing. it's tuff to justify sometimes. we re-evaluate every year. we thought we were going to give our site up this year, and then we were offered the site we originally wanted that was much bigger and more private...so needless to say we signed up for another year.

Kalamity & Bob, I am sorry to hear about Bob's stroke. My MIL lost her arm and had to do everything with her other and she was always in alot of pain, like you said over working it. A seasonal site might be a good idea. We tried it for a couple of years, it was nice. Always someone was helping someone which was very nice. I can't imagine how hard this was to decide for you and Bob, but I bet something better is ahead for you both!

I am sorry to hear about your decision and know that it must have been a difficult one. I have camped since I was three months old and camping is so deeply a part of me, that it would be like losing one of the better parts of myself if I had to give it up, though I realize that one day I too will have to do that. I watched my father and mother curtail our camping when his health went bad--he was 53 when I was born--but they were fortunate, I suppose, to have me take over all of his towing and set up chores. Eventually, though, he was forced to give it up entirely.

I wish both of you well and hope you might be able make one of the suggestions mentioned here work!

Stiles, the reason the link doesn't work is the period at the end is included as part of the link. If you click the link, then go to the address bar and delete the period it will work. Like the rest of the folks here,I am sorry to read where you must sell your Monty. A wise decision under the circumstances, but painful I know. We all have to face it one day I am sure. I hope you can find pleasure in some other activity you like. Hope you will continue to check into the forum, because we all will be thinking of you

Thank you, everyone, for your kind & encouraging words. I personally have camped almost 40 years now and like some of you, my siblings and I were raised in a camping family. The idea of parking it somewhere would be appealing, but we're part of a camping club that roams around here & there. It's like one HUGE family and it includes my parents as well. I knew one day that the camping with my parents would end, but didn't expect it just yet. So I guess what makes this extra hard to face is not camping and not camping with our huge family. I, being the die hard I am, am hoping I can maybe convince him to simply go to something smaller and I can learn to pull it. This is just truly killing both of us so maybe I can convince him.

Someone mentioned going to a Class C someday. We had a Kit Companion fiver for years and years and bought some friends' Four Winds, but that truly hurt Bob's shoulder while driving (it had a slide out right behind the drivers seat so he had trouble getting comfortable)so we sold it and bought the Monty.

We'll see what happens as our saga unfolds. Thank you for all the thoughts & suggestions. You guys (and ladies) really are the BEST!

Believe me, Kalamity, this 3295 pulls like a dream! A real dream! I have pulled boats and other TT and other trailers, there is NOTHING that can compare to a 5er! NOTHING!

Just a thought.

The last time I was at Baywood Campgrounds in Mississippi they were performing services for the snowbirds.

What they do is store the camper all summer and set it up for you when you when go south so it is ready to go when you arrive. These campers that I talked to have nice big rigs, make a little money at the casinos working part time in the winter, and don't own a tow vehicle.

Maybe other places do that to. Bring the whole family south for the winter.

You can pull your 5er. I, Jan am the one that pulls ours much of the time. I will admit I grew up on a farm/ranch so pulling things aren't new to me--just have to know not to cut the corners too tight, otherwise no problem--I just tell myself that I am not as wide as that semi in front of me--if he can get there, so can I
