Cover for Monty
DO any of you cover your Monty? If so, what type of material do you recommend the cover be made of?

I think you'll find that the consensus is not to cover it. The covers will cause condensation under them and wind blowing will cause the cover to rub at different locations on the rig. The rubbing can cause ugly spots that can't be removed without body shop work. Personally, with all the RVs we've owned, we've never covered any of them and they all survived weather very well, clear down to -20° F.

DITTO what Ols1932 says, he covered it ALL, haha, by NOT covering! We totally agree with his take on this subject.

I don't like covers either...did opt for a 50' x 20' garage that is really nice in winter (snow/ice/cold) and summer (hot sun and storms).

I cover my Montana with a 20' X 40' metal roof. If I did not have that, I wouldn't cover it at all for the reasons already stated.

I'm not certain it was the cover, but I covered mine and my caulking around the seams has mildew spots on them and when I look at others around the campground I don't see it?!

For this Monty we opted for covered storage. It gets expensive, but it's nice not to have to mess with a cover and tire covers and closing curtains, etc. Hopefully the cost will prove beneficial someday with regards to longevity and appearance, even value.
I for one have watched those things shred in our storage area, and some of the poly ones just blow apart after being attacked by UV all winter. I find little shreds of them up against the fence. I also hear from folks that the covers actually cause damage to the units by abrasion in the wind.

I have opted for an 18 X 42 foot metal building 14 feet tall to cover our 3400RL for just the very reasons listed for not using a cloth cover.

We bought our trailer used and a cover came with it. I really can't see me dragging that big thing up and over the roof so it will remain in the package. Our last trailer was never covered and it survived 13 North Idaho winters with no problems. I did have to do some snow removal a few times.

Thanks for the feedback. You confirmed something Doris and I suspected and saved us $400.
