How long have you had your Montana?

We've had ours for almost 9 years, and it's getting to the point where things are starting to break. Cracked shower floor, leaking gray water tank, and will soon need new tires and probably brakes. There are also a lot of upgrades I'd like, but don't want to put money into something that I should trade in. I'm just curious how long these are expected to last, and is it time to think about trading it in? How long do the roofs last, etc? Thanks in advance!

Shane,

We just traded our 2011 3580RL in for a 2015 3610RL and could not be happier! We looked at the upgrades Montana has made over the last 3 years since we bought our first Montana and felt that the we could not go wrong. We were also on the threshold where the trade value of our 2011 was still pretty high so our out of pocket costs were lower. Overall though Montana's hold their value a lot better than SOB's in the same category.

There are some really good deals out there now and we would recommend to start shopping and get in some of the new ones to see what you like!

Good Luck,

Les

We've only had our 3700RL for a year and a half and are fully satisfied with it, but with all of the changes and upgrades in the past year, it's tempting to consider a trade each time we window shop. So now our dilemma is whether we should add some of the modifications that we have seen to our existing rig, or forgo and trade up every couple years. Having said that, the cost, once investigated, may pretty well settle what we can or cannot do.

We had our first Montana 7 years, traded for current rig, which is now in its 6th season. Lots of stuff breaking on ours too. We use ours, on average, about 40 nights per year. That number will soon increase significantly as my wife is about to "retire" from her teaching job. So I am also debating whether to keep the monthly payment in my pocket and use for repairs as needed, or get a new one next year. We will definitely be looking at SOBs as well. I was highly pleased with my first Monty, and not very pleased at all with this one. With some of the issues I am hearing about with new rigs, I think I may stick with this one and make repairs as needed. It's got new tires, soon will have new landing gear, and a number of other new parts. It is in great shape on the inside (looks terrible on the outside due to peeling decals). Like most, ultimately finances will drive the decision.

We've had ours since April of this year. We sold our previous SOB which we had for 9 year last November. That was a great unit, but the manufacturer went under during the recession, as so many did.

We're hoping to keep this one for at least 9 years. We'll see.

As you can tell from the signature, we have had ours for 13 years. We use it on an average of 5 weekends and 2-3 extended (two weeks or more)trips per year. We have been extremely fortunate by not having any (yes, I mean ANY) appliances or mechanical breakdowns.
Once my wife retires in a couple of years, I have no hesitation in taking it out for several months to a warmer winter climate. It still looks like new...although I have made a point of maintaining the brakes, bearings, washing and polishing and painting it over the years. I am still hoping for many years of enjoyment since they no longer make our open floor plan.

We have had ours 7 yrs come July. Virtually trouble free all those years and still so.

BUT. I am beginning to think trade. At 68 and both of us in good health I am thinking we will do this for about 10 more years. And with comments about financing difficulties on 10 yr old units I am thinking on trading before ours reaches that point, and keeping the new one until we can no longer do it.

Brought Tana home in June of 2003.

She has had her share of repairs, but, the repairs are still cheaper than a new unit.

We were really looking at a new one, and if things in our life change again, maybe we will look again.

But, for now, Tana rolls on, we have her decorated and modified to our likings, roll on - - -

06 3400 for 7 years now the 2013 3402 for nearly two years. We are long timers and heavy users. travel 7/9 K miles a year and live in them over 250 days a year. If I
had to do it over I would spend whatever it took to repair/upgrade the 06 3400.I did not get better RV with the 2013 3402 Big Sky/. 5 /10 K to repair and upgrade would have been a bargain/. The big sky is in the shop now for two Leaking holding tanks and other issues. My experience only.New may not be better....

It was July of 2001 that we brought home our Montana. We bought it new off the dealer's lot in Reno, NV. So in about another 1-1/2 months we'll have had it for 13 years.

We really haven't had any trouble with it. Thought maybe a couple of weeks ago that we had a suspension problem as it was tilting to one side but after several inspections nothing was found to be out of place. After a good lubing and a ride on a bumpy road it quit leaning and we just returned from a 420 mile round trip without any problems. It's thought to be that something got tweaked and didn't go back into place right away when it had been jacked up to examine/adjust brakes.

We removed and replaced the decals ourselves and also replaced the shackles. Other than doing maintenance here and there, our Montana could be a poster child for carefree RVing.

Not sure if we'll keep it or buy a new (or newer) RV. We are trying to figure that out now.

We have had our Monty since October of 2013. Hubby saw some of the new floor plans and is already talking about trading up to a '15 Big Sky. I'm dragging my heels. Really?! I was all for trading the 7 week old TT for the Monty, but I love my fiver and can't see taking another loss this soon. Funny how he wasn't sold on this full-time thing and now he is going nuts for it. Guess I should just be happy I'm married to a man who likes nice things . . .

We love our 2010 and the floor plan suites us. In addition, we've added things like solar, independent suspension and are currently adding tile living room floor and have made a large number of minor mods that make our rig "ours". That alone keeps us from looking seriously at new ones. As Carol said, repairs are cheaper, and from our point of view, if you like the old floor plan better than the new ones better keep fixing what you like.

Started out with a 2007 Cougar pull trailer. Upgraded in 2008 to a new Montana 3400. Liked it very much, no major problems. Traded it for a 2011 Hickory Edition 3400, mainly because of the interior and upgrades. Liked it too, no major problems. Then, this last year, traded the 2011 for a 2014 3725. Hadn't planned to, but the floor plan was fantastic, wife loved the kitchen and bathroom, and we both really love the six point Level Up system. We both swore on a stack of Bibles that this one would be our last one! Maybe........ But, we both will say that the new 2014 is better than the 2011 was, WAY better than the 2008, and the big difference we notice, is the warmth. No drafts or cold spots, at least in ours. The others definitely had cold spots. Whatever Keystone did, we have definitely noticed the difference. Using a lot less propane too. But, this is our experience. Others may differ!

We had our 2008 3400RL for only a year. Extremely clean fiver and we loved it. All the bugs were worked out of it and the only thing I was dealing with were pealing decals. I think our 2008 would have lasted another 10 years with the proper care.

Almost two years old and extremely disappointed with our Montana and it will be probably the last we will own. So far with 5,000 travel miles and at the most 7 weeks of camping the wheel bearing seals failed at 1 year on 3 wheels, complete brake replacement, broken propane strap, fantastic fan motor failure, 7 roof staples almost through the fabric and Keystone will not cover under warranty, both baggage doors hinge screws had to be repaired, and DVD player failed. We owned a keystone Cougar for 4 years with zero issues and I thought the Montana was a better built coach since the selling cost was about 20 grand difference, boy was I wrong.

5 1/2 years and counting. Probably will not upgrade, unless we start to have major problems. Havent used it as much as we'd like over this past year, but starting the process for a summer jaunt now. Hope its not too late to get some Down East coastal campsites!!
