DVR coach wiring

Pleasant surprise re the coax cabling setup on our 2015 re DVRs and the need for two coax runs. Convenience center has three feeds, cable living room satellite and bedroom satellite. Bedroom has three feeds, cable/air, satellite, and outside tv. In the front cargo compartment, two feeds, outside tv cable/air and satellite. I got our DirecTV DVR hooked up without modification, using the setup in place by Keystone for having a tv using cable, air or sat outside.. Works because the switching options for the outside tv fed from the bedroom allows you to bypass the air amplifier, and provides a second path. Downside, only works in the bedroom. Upside, don't have to run the second DVR feed thru a window. Best wiring setup,I have seen so far in a Montana.

Actually the separate satellite feeds have been around since late 2010. We have a 2012 and the DirecTV SWM system (one cable per receiver) which enables us to record 5 shows concurrently on the DVR plus watch another channel (or whatever is recorded on the DVR) on the bedroom/basement receiver. Nifty swifty!!

Hi

The only problem I see in the wiring diagram supplied by Keystone for that system is it provides for 2 satellite receivers but make no provision for viewing one satellite receiver on all TV’s. That can be accomplished by putting a switch at the roof antenna control box to switch a single satellite receiver in and out of the “cable” coax lead and hooking your satellite antenna to the connector in the convenience center marked “cable”.

Carl's right, ours is a late 2010 and has two feeds in the convenience center.

I'm in the planning stages to add another satellite feed to the entertainment center so that I could record on my PVR. So the switch that you talked about Phil would it allow me to record and watch without adding another cable?

Yes it would.

You switch the cable lead at the roof antenna control box so you cable lead goes thru the satellite receiver and the signal out from the satellite receiver goes in at the roof controller at that point you have the signal from the satellite receiver to all TV’s. You can only watch the same satellite program on all TV’s. You must turn off the roof antenna booster.

This is a post that has the diagram for your trailer. It is the one on the bottom of the list.

You can see that the cable coax feeds thru the roof antenna control box to all TV’s.

OK, let me get this straight in my mind. My DVR requires two satellite feeds so as to be able to record one channel and watch another. So to be able to do this with the existing wire I hook up the satellite feed to the DVR in the living room and then hook up the cable feed to the DVR after having changed the cable to satellite in the bedroom. Is this right or am I blowing smoke?

Hi

Looking at the diagram I would say you would have to do this at the bedroom TV,

Hook one feed from the satellite receiver to the cable connection the second feed to the connection that goes to the bedroom TV. At the roof antenna control box use the cable feed to the second satellite feed on the satellite receiver.

This can be done by using a switch or by just unscrewing the cable feed from the roof antenna control box and hooking it to your satellite receiver.

Because Keystone had told me the provision for adding a satellite receiver had not been installed I did this in the bedroom. We have Satellite reception at all three TV’s and when switched back to standard we have roof antenna reception at all TV’s.

Our unit is a 2009 and the wiring for the TV antenna system is almost like the first drawing.

Here is a link to my project.

Well, I was excited for a moment thinking I would be able to hook up the receiver in the living room without running another cable. But I guess that is not to be. I'll just have to run another cable from the convenience center to the living room TV as I was originally planning to do.
Found something interesting this past weekend when I removed the fireplace to see about the ease of running of running the second cable. My sub woofer and surround speakers weren't working and there was a good reason for it. The wires were laying on the floor not hooked up.
Ah, the joys of RV'ing.

Glad to hear they added the second feed. Made that mod on our 2006 3000RK. Had to take the panel off the convenience center in basement tape new line onto the existing and snake it through. did have to make to an opening inside coach behind access door bigger to allow grabbing the wire. now able to run 2 sat feeds to Dish 722k dual tuner dvr and watch and record different channels.
