Cowboy Up!!!
Well, we've had a new experience here in Oklahoma. We have been here on the farm a few months taking care of my mom's estate matters and have had the opportunity of learning some "cow things". We've helped move cows (a herd of about 95 head) from pastures to the farm pens and bak. Watching the cowboys move a calf across the pasture one day and suddenly one of the cowboy's horse took off like a shot one way and the calf the other way. Turns out the horse bumped up against a hot fence and didn't like it. The calf came running my way dragging its rope and I was able to step on it (the rope) and slow the calf's progress enough to grab the rope and stop it. When the cowboys arrived I handed over the calf and told them I didn't need a horse to cowboy! Next Bob and I "cowsat" for 6 days while my uncle took a break. We learned to check hot fences in 6 pastures, fill up and haul water every other day and even got to see a calf born right next to our rig. We feed the mamas, babies and yearlings in the lot everyday. Walking amongst big mama cows can be a little intimidating. We did forget to put the alfalfa under cover and got it all wet one night when it rained. We did get the gigantic water truck stuck in the mud in a pasture, but were able to get it out. When my uncle returned I told him all cows that he left were still here plus one, so he thought we had done okay! Think we'll put "cowsitters" on our workamper resume!!

Well, we never know what you guys are up to! This is certainly a different kind of lifestyle for an rv'er but it sounds like fun and sounds like you have the right attitude. Life is always an adventure.

Great report! If only you'd got this all on film, think how much fun that would be at a rally! I remember some of those things from time spent on my grandparents farm but you have far exceeded my experiences.

Okie Guy, being an old rodeo cowboy thought you might enjoy knowing that we have some bull riders, a couple of bull fighters (used to be called clowns) a pair of good team ropers and a 3rd ranked national college breakaway roper in the family. Kelsey, the breakaway roper, will be competing in the college finals in Casper, WY starting June 10th. Thanks for your offer of help, but I think our cowsitting days are over for awhile!! Mooo.

It's experiences like you two had on the ranch that stay with you always. It sounded like such fun, I think we are all envious. Glad you made it with all fingers and toes attached.
