Water Regulator

When I picked up my new 3811 MS one of the things they told me was to attach a water regulator to prevent a blowout.

How true is that?

And what pressure is acceptable before attaching the regulator?

The reason I ask the park where I am staying has about 50psi with the regulator off. Using the regulator has really reduced water flow drastically!

A regulator is very important some RV & CG have very high water pressure and can cause damage to your rig and a flood is the last thing you want to have. I have an adjustable one with a gage on it I keep it set at about 55lb. What kind of regulator do you have?

You do want to use a regulator. One of the high flow models will not reduce your flow.

It is an important safety item, the last thing you need is to blow a fitting or have a leak that you don’t find right away. The normal everyday pressure is not the issue, but pressure spikes when pumps kick on can be the issue.

Check the volume rating on your regulator. There are different flow rates ratings even for a consistent 50-55psi regulator. Look for a high flow unit. BuilderBob’s idea of one with a gauge an adjustable is great.

Thank you for your reply Bob. I have a very basic one that I purchased without a pressure gauge. Obviously I need to upgrade because with the gauge that I have I have such limited water flow it takes forever to shower. If I have 55 pounds of pressure at the RV site where I am is a regulator still necessary?

How do you know it is 55 pounds? Remember there is a regulator somewhere that sets that 55 pounds. What happens if that goes bad it would be nice to have a regulator on your hose to protect things.

Here's what we use. It's adjustable, protects our plumbing, and has allow ample water flow.....provided the RV park has good water pressure.

Rich you always use your regulator in case there is a spike in water pressure wear you are. Same goes with you Electric do you have some sort of EMS protection?

You have 2 ways to accomplish this...you can either buy a portable surge protector/ diagnostic unit, or you can chose to buy the hardwired EMS (electrical mgmnt. system). Differences are once the portable gets zapped, its toast, time to replace...hardwired from Progressive Industries 50 amp EMS,it has a digital readout for the codes, and if it gets zapped, you can replace just the surge protector part relatively cheaply and easily.

Others can add more info that I have omitted. But IMHO ANY EMS is better than NO EMS.

Rich I agree with CarWin 100% on the hard wired is the best way to go on a EMS they do make some good portable ones but then you have one more thing plunged in out in the weather here in Washington St wear it never rains I the less out in the weather the better!

Also word of advice anytime you leave your rig for 20 minutes or more best to turn the water off at the spigot to ensure you don’t have an accident, we use a 55psi regulator and always turn the water off when we will be away for 20 min or more

This is what I use for a pressure regulator set at 55psi. Unlike most I hook it up in my convenience center and use a 150psi water hose to prevent the hose from bursting.

Both the EMS and the pressure regulator have saved us many times. Campground in Black Jack, Mo and one in La Messia, NM both had pressure near or over 100#. Campground in IN had reverse polarity, one in AZ had no ground and one in KS had continuous off and on low power.
