Banks Engine Brake
Do you still use tow/haul mode with the Banks engine brake?
Thanks in advance, Ken

Ken,
I did not answer because I do not have automatic but since I have the manual transmission and an exhaust brake I will explain my understanding of its function.
The higher the RPMs the more effective the exhaust brake works. With the higher RPM there is more air flowing through the exhaust. The exhaust brake is a butterfly vale that closes when activated to restrict exhaust flow. Note: my computer will not allow the exhaust brake to activate if there is any throttle demand or turns off when throttle demand. This puts back pressure on the pistons as they try to expell exhaust on the exhaust stroke providing breaking horsepower.
So if you engage the tow/haul mode I believe it lowers the shift point and means the motor will be turning a little faster therefore causing more air out the exhaust.
Hope this helps.

If you are talking about the Banks Speed Brake it is integrated with the tow/haul system. When set to manual or it will use the transmission, torque converter and the variable vane turbo to control vehicle speed when coasting and to assist braking. In the automatic mode it is a braking assist using the same components. If you are talking about a traditional exhaust brake then I would suggest that using the tow/haul system at the same time gives you the same combination of assists.

At least on my Dodge, Banks recommends using Tow/Haul mode in conjunction with the Banks Brake. The trans control module included with the Banks Brake works better to control torque converter lockup function as well as other shifting parameters with the T/H mode engaged. I love that the BB also includes a seperate O/D defeat switch because (on the Dodge at least) you otherwise have to choose between Tow/Haul mode OR O/D off. Stock won't allow both, it's one or the other.
With T/H mode ON, the Brake engaged and O/D off I rarely have to even touch the brake pedal. But then I haven't towed with the new Monty yet, but I expect it will work very well. My experience was coming down from Lake Tahoe (steep grades) with a 30' bumper pull...about 8k lbs.
