Shower Head Mount is Loose

Any idea how to fix the shower head mount? Screws are loose as seen in the pic and need to fix it.

First off, is there anyway to get in behind it and add some wood? If not, then either use plastic inserts, or small butterfly bolts. Or you may use a larger diameter screw but use some silicone on it to help hold them tight and from leaking

No way to get back there. Kitchen cabinets are on the other side. Drilling the holes out and adding butterfly bolts might be the best option.

I would move it up about 1/4" or so but still cover old holes,drill new holes and add silicone behind the mount.

Toggle bolts require a pretty good size hole and the metal rusts. Plastic inserts probably best, be sure to seal good. Personally don’t like silicone, I’d use an adhesive caulk.

Not the ideal or best looking, but I could not stand how low the shower heads are it most campers. Ours was on one of those sliding bars and would not go any higher than say your neck.

What I did is removed the head and hose back to the fixture. Put a 1/2" pipe tread female adapter on the connection point and ran 1/2" cpvc down/over than up and mounted the head closer the corner of the shower and at the ceiling. I put a head on that has a built in lever to mostly stop the flow of water when soaping up (we dry camp a lot). Like I said, its not pretty but it gets the job done and could be easily converted back to the stock set up.

I have used togglers in my daily work as a carpenter. They will not work in this situation since they are designed to work with a wall surface than is at least 1/2" thick. If you are wanting to remount it, I would do as already mentioned and simply move it up or down and make new holes while still being able to cover the old ones.

Seal the holes and use Command Strips.

Whatever anchor you use to remount the bracket, be sure to use stainless steel screws. I would think the simple plastic inserts that are typically used in thin backings and also occasionally with sheetrock, would work, just make sure the holes in the fiberglass are barely big enough to push in the insert. I made a mod to our shower years ago, by replacing all the screws with stainless, and that includes all the screws behind the shower head slider bar brackets as well as the screws that mounted the shower doors, as they were rusting, too.

I would use marine grade epoxy, move it up enough to drill 2 new holes. With the epoxy roughen up the surface so it bonds better.

I had the same problem and picked up some of the nylon license plate nuts. Just drill the hole to accept the nuts, snap them in and mount the shower head holder.

Our pantry in the kitchen backs our shower. We had a problem with a water valve that had to be replaced. We cut a hole in the back of the pantry. Then I put in a panel that can be removed. We haven't used it, but if needed we have access. Joh

Had similar problems and fixed it this way. Bought some 1" long expansion moly bolts; the kind that expand the metal piece around the bolt. They make them for a wall thickness down to 1/8". I think Home Depot has them.

Now using the regular drill drive will only score the wall. So go on Amazon and buy the Glarks Heavy Duty Metal Setting Wall Anchor Tool. It's only $15 but it works. Install the moly bolts, take out the bolts, silicone the mess to prevent water, install your parts and let silicone cure.

I drop the showerhead when we travel.
