open ground

When hooked up to shore power, everything is fine. when hooked up to my 2000w invertor generator I am showing an open ground. Where do I go from here? Do I need a transfer switch.
Thanks in advance.

You need to adapt a pigtail to bond the neutral and the ground together. This is a very common occurence with a simple fix. It has been discussed many times on the MOC.

Hard wired surge guard or portable? If portable you can just remove it and plug in normally. If hard wired you would need to make a change to the wiring I believe. If you do a search you should find more info than I can provide.

I see Bingo beat me to it.

As stated an easy fix. Take a three prong plug and jumper the ground and the common (large lug). Some three prong plugs do not have the large common lug but the receptical does for reference. I plug that jumper plug into the second outlet on my generator and the EMS is happy.
I hope this helps.

H.J.Kohl, bnicinw I made up a plug like was suggested and it works like it is suppose too. Now just label it Bonding Plug and attach it to the generator to prevent it from going among the missing.
Thanks
Joe
