When I pull wires like that situation, I pull it fairly tight, then go to the other end and pull it back to see how tight the wires are. Then I attach the new wires to the old wires and have someone keep the wires tight, so they don't curl and make a knot. I pull a double set if the room allows to have spares. But I overdo everything, so that step is not necessary, and there may not be room for that.
