Open the outside door on the water heater. In the lower left area behind the gas tube there is probably a small black switch for electric, turn it on.

If not there you don't have a gas/electric heater. Gas only.

Let us know what you find.

Try the reset button on the water heater for electric.

Various problems reported from previous people with the same issue include;
Bad heating element
Bad or tripped thermostat/hi temp cutout
Bad switch (the little black one)
Loose neutral wire connection in J box on back side of water heater
Loose wire connection elsewhere
Tripped breaker
If you are comfortable troubleshooting 120 vac and have a volt/ohm meter, you can find a schematic wiring diagram on the Suburban web site.

If you don't have the manual, go to this link to download a copy. It says it's the 6 gallon manual, but it actually covers a number of sizes. https://www.manualslib.com/download/...an-Sw6del.html

My elections problems

I have a SW12DEL heats the water on electric 100 degrees than turns element on an off never getting any hotter. Gas works fine heats to 130. I have replaced stat, element and switch. I am going to pull it and check for loose connects at a/c box on top.

I have 122 volts inside at outlet and only 110..115 volts on element when it's on, is this normal?

This on a 2014 Montana 3850FL

Any ideas or thoughts are welcome.

Send a message via MSN to rmthelen
There is a possibility that your element has burned out and needs to be replaced.

I would be checking the connections at the breaker first. Then check all the 120 volt connections going to the water heater. Your inside switch is 12 volts DC which goes to a relay in a box attached to the water heater, accessed by pulling the water heater out part way. Possibly you have a problem with that 12 volt DC to 120 volt AC relay. As long As the thermostat is the right one and your element is also the right one, you should be getting the correct water temp in the electric mode. You might also check the outside switch that is at the lower left corner of the unit outside. They have been known to develop burnt connections in the switch.

Thanks for responding, done all that, the relay you are talking about is it in the control board in top of heater?

The small black switch outside at the bottom left corner of the WH is cheap and easy to replace. You can check it with a multi meter to see if it is bad. Very easy to get to also.
