Need help with Bedroon slide
It took 10 years to find out we had water infiltration on one corner of my 2004 Mountaineer bedroom slide.
I took the bed apart and found the support for the slide rotten completely on the left side. Using a car jack I lifted the left side of the slide to be leveled, removed all the rotten wood and replaced it with plywood not pressed wood as previously used.
There is only about 3 inches of wood covered with carpet the width of the slide that will need replacement. There are no rollers or other devices to support the slide. It slides on the carpet that is all.
Questions:
Can this repair be done without actually removing the slide?
Should I simply take the 5th wheel to a RV repair shop and let them decide?
We are sitting in Palm beach FL till mid April. My temporary fix is good till I get back to Ontario. There is no rush but it will need fixing.
Thank you.

If you are good till after you are done vacationing here in So. Fla I would wait till you get home. It could take a long time to get it fixed this time of year. Good luck

You should find out where the water infiltration is coming from, too. Fixing the damage does no good if what caused it isn't fixed. That's gotta be a question that's answered, too. I would guess that water should not find a way into any wood structure parts of my rig and should be protected from that in some way.

I'd think about contacting Keystone Customer Service and see if you could stop by Goshen on the way home so they could look at or fix it?!

We left the 5th wheel at a local RV dealer in Stittsville Ontario the day after we got back. It took several weeks for them to order a new floor and install it. They found rot in the floor but not on the walls. They did an excellent repair job.

Hi
I only know of one competent shop in Florida for that kind of work and they are commonly booked for 6 to 8 months in advance and you are about 80 miles north of them. Their labor rate is $130 per hour.

Hopefully they also found (and corrected) the source of the leak.

I would contact Keystone Customer Service because, at least on the newer rigs, they told us on the factory tour a couple of years ago that the flooring had a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer. On the leak that's a common place to have water and most of us have found it's the 4"strip on the outside bottom of the slide that needs to be recaulked. I would look there first.

Yes it is possible to replace the floor without removing the slide. I did it and it only took a day by my self.( not everything in the trailer was done but it was fixed) The leak was do to the wide molding on the bottom portion of the slide. I didn't take pictures but I can explain to you how I did it if you PM me and we can then exchange #'s.
Good luck
Joe

DQDICK, Do you know what years have the lifetime warranty on the floors?
We have a 2012 and it has rained hard here in Daytona this month and we found we have a bedroom slide leak and the floor was wet a few days until we got back to the rv.

Has anyone replaced or fixed the black material that lines the bottom exterior bedroom slide? Opened ours today after the very cold winter and have a few cracks in the material.
Thanks

X2. Get it to where you can be without it for awhile.

We also had a leak there, took off the 4 inch trim on outside wall, caulked it and it still leaked.. Took it in for repairs and tech found both side walls of slideout had never been screwed to the wall and absolutely no caulk on trim at bottom. You could push them at bottom and there was a half inch gap.. He sells Keystone products and said it was poor workmanship..
