Rand McNally GPS

I just made a quick 700 mile trip for some solar panel work and decided to see if there were any updates to my RM 7020 GPS before I left. I've never been happy with the screen resolution on my unit finding it hard to view sometimes, especially in bright conditions. I think I last updated it about 9 months ago.

Wow!! Something or somebody really made some great changes. The screen is much more clear and defined. And you can adjust the brightness better. For me, it's much easier to see while driving now. And it looks like A few more features were added including driving on weight restricted roads. I was contemplating buying a new one if they were better than the older ones, but, not now.

Ironically my 2015 Chevy 3500HD has a GPS built in as part of the options I ordered. I find it almost useless and very disappointing with regards to setting destinations and being able to trust it. And it's very user un-friendly as compared to my RM 7020 and our Garmin we use in the car. I for one would now highly recommend the Rand McNally to any RV person.

I agree with you about the Chevy GPS, really anemic for what it costs. We were thinking about what you have, and it sounds very nice. Does it require an internet connection like the cell phone apps do or does it really store all the data on board itself?

It does not require an internet connection although it has the capacity to use a wi-fi connection while underway. I have used the hot spot on my iPhone to hook up and follow the weather along my route. You can also get gas price updates, etc, but you can do all this on your phones and tablets too.

The device stores all info needed for maps and routes along with campgrounds, truck stops, and misc like this. Just go online and there are many sources explaining the capabilities.

Again, I would like to tell anyone who would listen about the pathetic, overpriced poor excuse of a GPS that GMC markets and expects to compete with Garmin, Magellan, Tom Tom or Rand McNally. The only one they beat is made by Fischer Price, the toy company, that you install on the grandkids tricycle.

I agree. Love my Rand McNally and hate the GPS in our Prius.

We agree on the Rand McNally, we have quit using the Garmin although it was good enough until we got the 7735, and now we just move the RM.

I like the maintenance records part of the Rand McNally. Also it's so easy to keep track of your fuel expenses and your miles per gallon.
