Dimplex Electric Fireplace Thermostat Control

Been a while seen I have been on the Forum, but continue to read it as often as possible. Still have our 3400RL and continue to use it extensively for 5 months each winter in Arizona. Presently we are having problems with the high setting on our Dimplex Electric Fireplace thermostat control. Works very well on the low heat setting but when it is switched/set at the high setting it kicks off and only the fan runs with the heating element off.
Has anyone had this type of problem; and is it actually the thermostat control that is likely malfunctioning?
Appreciate any help or feedback on this. Thanks Ellis

Haven't had a problem with our fireplace, but when we have that situation with our small electric heater it's because the air intake to the fan is beginning to be clogged with cat hair.

I had perhaps an identical problem with ours last Spring. I thought it was a thermostat problem. I vacuumed the vents from the front, but that didn't fix the problem. Early this Fall I removed the fireplace and opened up the top lid and vacuumed it out around the heater element. Maybe it was some form of safety switch built into the heating element. Since the vacuuming of the heating element we haven't had the problem again. Hope it last another couple of years. Only time will tell.

I did the same as 2wanderers a few weeks ago as I was having the same problem you described. By removing the unit and cleaning all the dust from the vents and fan, the heater has worked fine. It didn't appear that dirty but apparently it was enough to restrict air flow and trip the high limit switch.

Yep you gotta pull it out and remove the top panel and vacuum it out all over inside ,mine did the same after only 4 months of use and that solved the problem

Just to understand your problem, does the heater run for a period of time on the high setting then cut out, or not work at all when you set it to high.

Our Dimplex fireplace in the RV and I suspect the one we have in the S&B have a rotary thermostat and a safety heater cut out switch, the cutout is at the heater element/fan combination and the thermostat is located on the front panel.

I have never had a problem with either of my fireplaces, have never had to vacuum them and wonder how that affects the thermostat. It does however refer to a build up of dust in the heating element as a cause for the heater to shut off in the troubleshooting section.

Ed,
Mine failed after about 10 minutes or so of use. The heater just shut off. I figured it was the high limit switch due to lack of air flow. Cleaning all the vents and fan area solved the problem.

Appreciate the feedback and will remove the fireplace and clean/vacuum. Is there a certain way that unit is held in the cabinet? Nothing in the Dimplex manual. Is there hidden screws or does it snap out?
The heater does run for a while on the high setting, then trips off with only the fan blowing ambient air. Will not reset itself; you have to shut it off and wait a few minutes and it will operate the same again. The low setting works well and for hours upon hours with no problems. Thanks for the advice and help.

Should be a screw in all four corners of the fireplace, not that easy to see but that is where mine are.

Like Ed said just four screws one in each corner then it just pulls out and you will also see the Sub woofer for the surround sound in there too it is more of a hassle to remove all the screws of the panels to get the lid off to vacuum then to pull the fireplace out itself But.....EASY PEEZZEEE and this reminds me I got to do it again we got 2 cats and a lot of hair and dust gets in there

Ellis,
The screws that hold the unit in place are in all 4 corners.....not easy to see as they are suppose to be "not visible" when the unit is installed. Once you get those out, the unit is very light and easy to remove. Everything will be accessible and pretty easy to clean.

Jack

Thanks Jack, have not had the time to tackle it yet as the weather here has been just great! Will pull the unit out next week to inspect it and clean it as suggested. Hopefully that will solve the problem so that we can use the high setting when the temps drop low here on the desert.

Pulled the fireplace unit out this morning; wow is there a lot of small screws on this unit!! Vacuumed and cleaned the total unit and reassembled. Not bad for dust; I was surprised. Tested out okay on the high heat setting so we will see over time.
Sure is a lot of open space behind that fireplace!
Again thanks for all the help.
