Reserveamerica is used by Florida state.
Most of the coastal state parks are booked. However the inland ones have openings and if you like state parks, they are very nice.

Yes, reserve 11 months, to the minute, in advance, which also requires payment in full at booking through Reserve America.

We too play the "reservation game" when planning our camping in highly popular areas. At times, I stay up to catch the opening minutes of the booking window to get the spot we really want. We find it is a small price to pay the cancellation fee if something comes up and we can't go as planned (has only happened once). This is because we are not yet retired and don't have the flexibility to just go on to the next camping area if the one we want is full. Darn work is interfering with our camping!

Ditto what nosticks said above. We live here in FLA and we have a tough time getting in to our parks. You have to be quick at the 11 month mark to get a site in winter, or any major holiday. Good luck.

That's probably because the pan handle of FLA is so much colder than central/south. I know, it's better than upstate Michigan, but still...Check out any of the good parks from Orlando south. You may find a few sites, but in an average year, not many.

I will just add that such parks as Topsail Hill and St. Andrews (at Panama City) will have the same problem of reservations---but instead of Winter, the problem with these parks will be in the Spring/Summer. I just checked St. Andrews. The most desirable sites are filled until August. (I should clarify that I mean beginning in the Spring.)
