Lippert Ram
Anyone had to replace a bad Lippert ram? If so approx cost of ram and labor. Any good place to have a ram replaced in the Sacramento - Stockton Ca area ?

You say ram, but is this a slide ram or a leveling ram? Some have had leveling rams rebuilt, and the slide rams should also be able to be rebuilt.

a leveling ram should be an easy self-install saving the labor cost.

I had 2 Lippert slide out rams replaced by CW. With "diagnostics", labor, parts and whatever charges they could pile on, it cost me over $3000. It still didn't fix the uncommanded slideout creep issue but they sure had their hand out when it came time to pay the bill. CW will never again touch my Montana.
As a side note, I spoke directly with a Lippert trainer / technician who told me that there is a known issue with the slideout rams in that they can be defective right off the shelf. Kinda like a box of chocolates... you never know what you're going to get.

We've always talked a lot about rebuilding slide or level-up cylinders on the MOC, but I've never run across anyone who has sourced a kit and done it. Sadly in today's world many things have proprietary parts or they are just made to wear out and be replaced. You could take it to a hydraulic shop, but they might have to disassemble it to measure for seals then order. You're talking lotsa downtime in that scenario. Swapping out a landing gear cylinder would be extremely easy if you were to just buy one. 4 bolts, two fittings. Cycle the gear full stroke both ways 3-4 times, top off reservoir and you're good.

Just be sure that before you top off your reservoir that you 1st retract all slides and level-up cylinders

Hi Frank! I had a landing gear ram replaced under warranty at Folsom Lake RV. The service people have all changed since then but the job is pretty easy. But if you don't want to mess with it FLRV or even Allied RV Supply and Repair (on West El Camino Blvd in Sacto) would be my choice.

I clean and lubricate the bare metal on each level up strut before retracting them. I believe it reduces wear and they operate smoother.
Dry struts hasten wiper and seal wear (IMHO).

Just wondering what you lubricate the rams with? Thanks.
