7-Way Connector

Going for the PDI tomorrow on our new 2955rl with long awaited joy. I installed the hitch about a month back, never thought about the length of the 7-wire connector cord on the Monty. Is it long enough to reach the plug-in on the truck bumper. If not I guess the shop will need to install an in the bed mount for the connector? I'm a do-it yourselfer and would like to have all ready had this done.

It should be plenty long enough to reach the bumper connector BUT if I had it to do all over again I would also have a connector located in the bed.

A in bed connector is a good idea just make sure that you don't mount it too far forward.

My bed connector is mounted on the side wall, driver side, about 18" from the tailgate. I really prefer the in-bed connector. Don't like wires hanging out.

Mine is in the bed about 18 ins. from front of bed. I don't have to crawl under anything to reach it. Works well for me.

I use the factory installed seven pin connector on my F-250 that below the bumper. The wire for the Monty is long enough to reach the bumper. I have a flow through tail gate and use a 4" bungee cord to attach it to the gate to maintain enough slack while turning to keep from it from pulling out of the connector. Congratulations on the new rig, know how you are feeling as it has not been that long since we picked up a new one.

Ours is mounted same as Charlie's and I do exactly the same with the bungee cord. If you have the standard tailgate, you might want to consider doing something to keep the cord from rubbing off the paint. That happened to me back on a '95 truck we had. Lesson learned.

In our '99 I had the plug in the wheelwell in the bed. I thought that was more convenient than below the bumper but it's not that big a deal either way, to me.

I had ours located just inside the tailgate, where it closes to the bed. It has worked well so far.
