.9 volts on overhead light - why?

The reading light above the bed in our 2014 375FLF was not working properly when we bought the trailer a month ago. The LED fixture would barely illuminate (very faint). I tried a new fixture and it would not illuminate at all. I checked the wires with a volt meter and found only .9 volts. Very strange. I can only think a wire has grounded out, maybe a mouse chewed on it? Two questions: (1). Any thoughts on why such low voltage, and (2) any ideas on how to fix? The wires are in a hollow floor to the upper cabinets and I have no idea how those wires are strung. May have to run new wires some way. My wife is wanting a reading light.

Thanks

If there is another light at the bed, does it work OK? If so, you might check the connections at that light. I’ve had several situations where the crimp connectors were bad. Could get her one of those head lamps until you get this working.

Not sure where you checked the voltage. If it was checked at the bulb holder you might check it before the switch. Most of these had push button switches and they have been known to go bad. I found the replacement for mine at Lowe's.

Unfortunately there is not another reading light on that wiring run. I have a tracer so I need to dig it out (we just moved and have TWO 24ft enclosed trailers packed full). But I’m pretty sure looking at the distribution panel that the wires would be on the 15amp “bedroom” circuit.

Jim, I removed the old fixture completely and checked the voltage from the two wires coming to it. The wires are about 20 gauge, so not inconsequential- and after stripping back 1/2 inch, the wires look in good shape.
