Mustang Island Texas

Here we are at the Pioneer RV Resort on sunny Mustang Island, Texas. Arrived Feb. 1, departing Mar. 1. Home is in central WI where it was 16 below zero the morning we left. We were actually getting used to it but 70 degrees feels much better! We are both anxious for spring. It's been a long winter back home. Husband is fishing, fishing, fishing, mostly off of the jetty in Port Aransas, and wife is catching up on reading, beachcombing and pampering the dog. Our 20 year old son is back in central WI wishing that he was here, but he is a junior at UW Stevens Point so has to study. Brought him down last January. He's an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. Next January, during winter break, he and his girlfriend will join us here for a couple of weeks. We are already looking forward to it as we both miss our boy (and the best girlfriend any parents could hope for!) Time for some sun!!

PackersBackers,

Make sure you visit the Padre Island National Seashore while there at Mustang Island. We stayed at Malaquite campground for two weeks and just had a wonderful time.

Another visit that you should make while in the area is the Aransas Wildlife Refuge and take a tour for the whooping cranes. Check out this link....

Thanks. We've been coming to Port A for quite a few years, off and on, not consecutive years(especially when Jake was very young and loved to chase and feed the sea gulls). For 18 years we owned and operated a motorcoach tour business which kept us too busy to travel on our own. We retired from that business in Dec 2007, so now have time for ourselves again. We did bring a few tour groups to this area during those 18 years. We took them on several excursions, including a boat trip to see the Whoopers... a favorite of everyone. We also found a neat place to camp last year... Goose Island State Park up the coast from here. Good fishing right out our back door.

We will be joining you but our reservations are from Feb.27-April 1. We have been told we will be in the 400 sites somewhere (no guaranteed sites). We have spent several years at Pioneer and over 15 in the area in the winter. Parents winter at the Grand Carribean Dune Crest. Hope to meet you for a couple days anyway. Enjoy. We are still freezing back home.

Steve & Jude,
We're so jealous! Have a great time and be thankful you're not in central Wisconsin. We're still here and waiting for our house to sell in Wis. Rapids. Irene is still managing the mall in downtown Stevens Point and getting very frustrated with all the political issues there! As soon as the house sells, we're OUTTA HERE! (Looking forward to joining the ranks of the retired folks)

Hey Everyone

Kathy and Nick (Lucky Nichol) here in Madison, WI. We will be taking our first real camping trip with the Mountaineer TT this April down in James Island County Park while we are doing the Charleston. But first we will be going to our favorite state park (so far) Hunting Island by Beaufort.

We are hoping there will be a some kind of seminar/workshop at the FALL MOC RALLY where people can get together and compare notes about Workamping, being campground hosts, camping in general, best parks (and which parks to avoid). We hope in a couple of years to be spending winters somewhere in GA, SC or FL.
