New Chevy 3500 Dually (NO GO)
Well, did it, putting a deposit down on an ordered Chevy 3500 dually in the morning. Not all the bells and whistles, but most. Should pick it up next week. Now the goat rope since the Montana is in for decal replacement and I'll be moving the hitch. Just have to make arrangements to leave it at the Montana dealer till all the switching gets done. More specs to follow! Dealership reduced the trade on my vehicle and that canceled the purchase.

I really love these new trucks! The competition is feirce right now between the big three. Other than the price tag... the consumer has some great truck choices! Congrats!

No, it was telephonic and he never asked if it was crew or extended cab. He sold it to me originally. But, it has turned my eye to the Ford SRW F350 diesel short bed. I really like that configuration better than a dually and it should handle the pin weight just fine. Plus, it's not government owned and is making a profit! Got to do some more research on the ford F350 SRW diesel and wait for the fall sales.

Well I agree with kdeiss, when the fiasco with GM happened I sold my GM Truck a bought a Freightliner. However we couldn't find any thing to replace our GM Truck. Went a bought a 2008 Silverado 1500, to haul the light stuff. And went and bought a new Chevy HHR its the only Car that fit our needs, had to be able to fit our furr kid and light enough to tow behind the 5th wheel.
However after two years we decided to downsize and quit towing the Chevy HHR behind the 5th wheel. So we sold the Freightliner and the 2011 Chevy 3500HD with the proven combo Duramax/Allison fit our needs. We also bought a new 2011 Chevy Tahoe, it fit our needs.
We have a 2012 Chevy 3500HD DRWs on order and should arrive in Sept. Delaine didn't like the interior (Black) so we order the 2012. When you buy a end of year Truck there isn't a lot to choose from, color etc.
I really didn't like what GM did, they were and are doing just the same as Dodge and Ford. The union is directing GM, tail waging the dog... Ford was very smart, they went out and borrowed millions, so they didn't need Government help like GM and Chysler. I really think GM/Chysler should have faced bankrupts.
However I just prefer GM Trucks and Cars to Ford and Chysler. I have never had a issue with any of my GM Trucks or Cars. Have never had to go back to the Dealerships except a few times. No Engine or Transmission problems... All my towing is very heavy.
The 2011 Chevy 3500HD has performed better than any 3500HD we have owned. I'm very please with the upgrades GM has made and the 2012's have more upgrades.. The exhaust brake is a major upgrade and very seldom have to use the brakes going down hills. The fuel mileage is better than any of my other 3500HDs. We are just returning from a 7,000 mile trip and I have got a low of 9.5 and a high of 13.4 mpg towing. And a high of 21 mpg at 68 mph. However the none towing mileage is 15 to 18 mpg. But I do believe a person should buy what fills their needs but if your not happy, make a change. Life is to short. Happy Trails..

Tim43 how much did the dealer reduce the trade in vehicle to?
The dealers when I was shopping for a new truck they offered me 2000 at a Dodge dealer, and 2500 at a Ford dealer, and it was a ford too. you would think they would work with you but no. I ended up putting the truck on Truck and Trader and sold it in 3 Days I got 350 less than I was asking, I used that for my down payment and money left over to have the hutch installed in the bed.
I'll bet you were mad when they pulled that on you. good luck on your next sopping trip.

Don, The decrease was $2,000.00 and it was just a matter of not wanting to part with the extra $$$. They did call me back later in the day with a deal to only reduce by 1K, but by that time I decided that since my truck only has 38,000 miles on it I'd keep it for a while longer. I like Chevy trucks and the 2500HD D/A 2004 I have now pulls just fine. But, as we all know, if I ever ran into the "weight police" they would be all over me for carrying too much pin weight. Since we do not full time, we really don't need a dually. It was just one of those I'm going out and see what's there moments. I would; however, like to move up to a 350/3500 SRW SB for towing and driving. That would appease any future pin weight worries and at the same time still have a truck DW could drive and that would fit in the garage when I'm out and about in the VW Golf diesel..

Tim,
Take a second look at your weights. I did and found a SRW 350 got me 500# gcvw, it wasn't enough.

2011-2012 Ford f-350 SRW has a gvwr of 11300-11500 with payload capacity between 3990-4400 depending on options. I did a great deal of research before ordering one. My pin weight is about 2800 so I should be ok with cargo, etc.

I would not worry about weight police I think the only reason a person will be pulled over is, if they are braking the law, or driving weard, then if the officer wants to be more intence in his writing, depending on how nasty the reciver is how does the saying go "service depends of your adatude" If that was the only reason you were thinking of getting a new truck. feel lucky if you got that new truck you would have another expence "Ureia" injection and refilling that tank every 3 to 5 K miles. you dont have that now.

Don, I just used the "weight police" term in regards to some other RV forums where if you are even over by a pound they start to flame the individual. I like my 2500HD, but do know that the pin weight from my 3585 probably puts it over the weight limit by about 400 pounds. That is the main reason I'm looking, but will I trade, that remains to be seen! Tim

Don I'm with you on the weight police. I checked our pole, Which truck do you pull your camper with and found that of the members responding over 50% pull with a 250 or 2500 truck and over 70% pull with a single rear wheel truck. If any body has had a problem i haven't herd about it.

I pull ml 2955 with a 3500 DWR and I just love driving 3500 DWR,If you don`t feel comforatble driving a DWR I don`t want to meet you on the road.

Tim,
No offense to Trailer Trash intended, but the Urea doesn't need refilling every 3-5K miles, in case that is an issue for you. I got the 1,000 miles remainng warning at 7785 miles, meaning you can get up to about 9000 mile before a refill - that's one year's driving for me, so it's really no big issue and adds very little cost to owning the truck.
Good luck with your decision. I love the dually and towing is a dream compared to my '03 2500, but it can also be a p.i.t.a. to drive around town sometimes.
