Super glide hitch question

I have a tool box behind the cab on my truck and am wondering when turning left will the release handle hit the box. If it did could I modify the handle to and rotate it to the rear of the truck for clearance.

Try it going very slowly. We have had zero issues with ours but we don't have a toolbox.

I don't know what kind of a hitch you have but no part of any that I have ever seen rotates.. The pinbox rotates on the stationary hitch and the release handle remains in the same place no matter what.

Maybe I am missing your meaning, if so I am sorry, otherwise I say you have no worries since the hitch remains in the same position except for the up down and minimal side tilt of the head.

I have a box in mine as well and it works out well. When you get the hitch in just move it by hand to check it out. It should slide back and not even come close.

Ed the superglide hitch uses a capture plate mounted on the 5th wheel pin on the trailer. This makes the hitch head and the pin box a solid piece that rotates the hitch head when you make turns causing the head to move away from the back of the truck by using a cam action. Since the head in the truck bed rotates the handle can move forward when turning.. Hope I am describing this correctly....

Drifty1 I was not familiar with the Superglide hitch, after watching a video on their operation I see what you mean. I have never owned a SB truck and have never had to worry about the hitch. My daughter and her husband have both damaged their SB truck pulling their horse trailer but that is a gooseneck hitch.

I will keep my LB for this and many other reasons but thanks for the education.

The handle will never come close to the box. As the head rotates, it travels to the rear, taking the handle with it. If you are talking about a conventional hitch, which it is assumed you are not, of course the handle doesn't move. We have the 18K Superglide and have a tool box in our standard bed truck.

A little off subject, but for people with the super glide be careful not to leave loose items in truck bed. I left an ax head without a handle back there and it got under the hitch where the cam action occurs and I was in a park making a sharp turn when I heard a loud pop, got out and inspected, found the ax head and a small chip in the cam track. That has probably been at least four years ago and it has worked perfectly since. I am just careful not to leave anything loose back there. I do have a tool box and as stated handle never gets close.

Better grab that hitch quick!! They are really well made, and unless he had a dozer crush the hitch, that's a great deal.

Pappy, thanks for the heads up about leaving loose stuff around the hitch.

Well we are the proud owner of a new hitch.. It came with the standard rails and mounting gear but I do not need that. Looks like brand new.. Now I need a plate to fit a 1621 pinbox.

You will have to get a bracket that attaches to the frame under the bed of the truck. Then you have to drill and attach it to the frame. I had to get this when I went from my old 2004 to a 2012, as the frames had changed. I think it went for $400 or $600 at a Chevy dealer installed.
Oh, FYI I kept the Hitch that goes in the bed from my old truck, but still had to get the correct mount for the frame.

The model 2900 will fit right onto the standard rails that already installed. I am 99.99% sure but will not get my truck back from body shop till late next week.

When you get your required capture plate that fits onto your pinbox, get the one that bolts on. I would not recommend welding it on, because if a different TV, such as if you are disabled needs to tow the trailer, you can remove the capture plate.

I ordered the bolt on plate this morning. Now all I need is a truck..

Very nice find $650 is a steal. Yes the ISR series 2900 fits the standard bed rails, you should be ready to go. Best price I could find on the 2900 was $1111.11 from Tweety's free shipping.

I have the paperwork and it was installed in Colo. on 3/14/2014. As you can see in the photo even the brackets for under the bed look like new. I think he paid about $1500.00 at camping world. So if every thing works as planed I will have a Reese slider for sale with 1999-2010 mounting brackets for a Chevy I believe.
