Who Still Keeps a CB in the Truck?

I Have an older Cobra 148 AM/SSB radio from my days when I drove a truck. Does any body still use a CB?

I have one that I sometimes use when traveling.
I also enjoy having the weather warning on it.

Many of us do. It helps to communicate with each other when we caravan and I also use it to listen to the trucks. I've avoided traffic tie ups just by listening.

I don't have one in the new truck, but I'm thinking of adding it for the reasons Jim mentioned.

Yep, use it when traveling for same reasons as noted by Jim noted. I keep it down a little so it does not get too obnoxious as some of the truckers can get but it is useful.

I put it in when I travel long distance. My problem is where do you mount a CB in the new Dodge Rams, I barely found a space for the brake controller.

Have always had a CB in all vehicles in the family- Still monitor CH 19 whenever we hit lots of traffic ahead of us- Still talk to the truckers when I can- They are an encyclopedia of info about the road ahead as well as locations of RV friendly truck stops and other points of interest including steep up or down grades- Some may be a bit crude but you can always hit the "off" switch- JMHO- Don

We have one, so we can talk to others when caravaning and listen to traffic reports when the traffic comes to an unforecast halt.

Yep, we just added one as we're doing a lot of traveling with friends and it makes it easier to communicate rather then using Cell phones.

We always travel with a CB (with weather channels) for the exact reasons already stated. In addition, I have a small, programmable "police scanner". Now I'm not trying to avoid the boys in blue (or gray, brown, etc) but the scanner is great when traveling on a turnpike. For example, on the Pennsylvania T-Pike the state police, road service and other emergency vehicles are all dispatched over the same frequency. And the turnpike uses a repeater system which relays all radio traffic the entire length of the pike. I can hear a trooper at MP-250 when I am at MP-5. It's a real asset to know when something happens many miles ahead. CB radios are great but they cannot send or receive over that great a distance. Many other states operate in a similar manor.

Have always had one and always will for the reasons mentioned by others above. On a recent trip back home, an accident ahead of us on Interstate 77 north of Fancy Gap, was brought to my attention by the ever faithful 18 wheelers. We took the old way (Route 52) (pre-interstate) to Fort Chiswell and avoided what we later heard was an eight mile backup. I think I will keep the old antique for a while.

We have a Cobra CB for use just like others have mentioned. Sure comes in handy when suddenly you come up on a long line of slow-moving traffic.

Just added one last year and it has helped me a lot with detours and traffic problems.

We have one for all the reasons listed. The nice thing is there is not as much chatter as in years past. So when there is CB traffic the odds are it is now more useful. Our last trip I almost thought the thing was broken until we got close to a truck stop where they were running their own "commercial" of current specials.

Still have mine, guess I always will. Feel naked without it. DW doesn't care for it, but sometimes it is very useful.

Larry,
It will come in handy on your solo trip to Goshen.

If anybody has some suggestions on where to mount one in Dodge 3500 it would be appreciated. Just don't know where I want to put it.

We travel with one and being a copy-cat I have to say for all the same reasons mentioned above. However we will also use the FM family radio if just two of us are
traveling together.
