EGR Problems
The SERVICE ENGINE light on the '06 Duramax appeared last Thursday @ 15239 miles. Had it checked at my local garage and EGR VALVE Code showed up. They reset the code thinking it could have been a fluke but it appeared again yesterday so it went to the Chevy Dealer. Just got a call that it is fixed. They received a Technical Service Bulletin on this problem. It seems the EGR gets "gunked up". They removed it, cleaned it, and reinstalled it. So if anyone out there has this problem, that is the solution.

I had one "gunk up" on my '04 F250 6.0, but not until 35,000 miles. It caused the engine to sputter and puff black smoke when towing up a hill. They replaced it and all was fine. My engine light never came on, but it did show up on their computer.
