I've never heard about a cartridge causing a leak. To my knowledge there is no "cartridge" involved with the plumbing unless you've installed it yourself. Of course we have an older model so perhaps they've changed things. Many folks do install filters to have pure water. Otherwise a leak is just a leak. Check the fittings and make sure they are all connected well. Sometimes debris gets in the device and prevents the handle from closing completely. We've found that faucets do go bad and the cheapest and quickest way to fix it is to simply get a new one. We had to do that in our shower.
