RV Hauling prices

I own a small business, and we are expanding into RV and boat storage. We are also looking into hauling. Has anyone ever paid to have their RV moved, and if so, how much? was it charged per mile? loaded and unloaded?

I have an idea where I am going to start my pricing, but am doing a ton of research, and want to make sure I get it right. Any experiences and info any of you may have will be helpful. Thanks

Someone, I believe it was the big dealership in Indiana for SOB, told me .75 a loaded mile. The local dealership told me they get a break after a certain # of units, I believe they pay about .50 per mile.

The normal range of transport hauling jobs pay anywhere from $1 to $1.35 depending on the unit you are transporting. That is loaded and only one way so you need to find a load back or run empty for nothing. It is not a occupation where you will get rich but not a bad way to see the country while getting a form of reimbursement.

yeah, I agree, .75 dosent even cover the cost.

What I am finding so far is the $1-$1.35 is what companies pay the private drivers... I'm looking for what they charge, since I will be the company.
I leaning in the $3-$5 per mile range, but still trying to do more research.
I own a property services company, and we are getting into RV/Boat storage....and we would like to offer service to move and haul too, maybe pickup and drop off at the storage facility, drop off to a seasonal campground...we are looking at a lot of options, and want to offer a storage solution that has services as well, hauling, perhaps firewood on site to buy, propane, etc. There are not any places around here like that. The hauling just goes hand and hand, and we have the vehicles in our fleet already to do it.

Contact this business in Florida, sounds like they offer the same services that you are proposing and they should be able to give you some insight and answer your questions.

I was an RV transporter and got paid like what was mentioned by rmthelen. I was not paid for "dead-heading" so my dispatcher did a pretty good job of minimizing my deadheading, at first, thereby making sure my next pickup was close to where my dropoff was. Unfortunately, then they started taking advantage of me and messing up too many times with bad delivery information so that I was deadheading more than I was towing and I was not making as much as they had "suggested". After the third messup, I told them "I quit".

As mentioned above, it is NOT a get rich job for the transporter, and based on what I made, plus figuring they probably charge the customer a little more to make some profit, the customer had to pay a pretty sum as "destination charges" if they didn't choose an existing unit from the lot.

For a quality mover the price here is $1.25-$1.85 mile. Min charge $100.00. Big problem with long moves is number times RV is handed off. Use caution and see insurance papers before you sign.

Hi

The only way to do it properly is to own the RV then you know what your insurance will cover and the DOT will leave you alone or go with a DOT number and purchase load insurance.

The guys that do it using the DOT and their insurance charge just under $2 a mile.

The guys that get caught doing it without owning the RV pay a fine ranging from $600 to 1,200 and have to hire someone to finish the job.

My niece just checked on having hers transported. She was quoted $2.00 per mile. I am not certain if that was loaded miles or both ways. As it turns out, now I am transporting it for her. Good thing we're camping together not far from home.

I chatted with a transporter who'd just dropped off a FW at Lazy Days Tampa. He lives in IN. He had a DOT# on his truck and he told me he made over $80,000 a year delivering for the mfgrs. and frequently had return loads. Frankly, I question his pay, but for a fleeting moment I thought about investigating further, but nah, I'm staying retired.

well im not looking to get rich by all means, we aree going to be doing RV storage, and this just seemed like an added service to drop off and or pickup.
I called a company to get a quote to move mine 100 miles, they quoted me 689 bucks, so that's almost $7 a mile.
seems high to me, im trying to get some more quotes so I can compare.

the 1.25 range is way to low, that seems to be what transport companies are paying private drivers. I would not be doing that, my company would be doing the moving, I own the vehicles, insurance, already have DOT paperwork for transporter etc,. Seems the $3-$5 range per mile would be a fair estimate , but I need more info.
