Remember, positive is black and negative is white in these things...

The line of least resistance doesn't always solve the problem. I will be needing a full wiring diagram in 3 years.

Two lessons learned Joe:
1) When a Battery Isolation switch is wired on one battery to the negative terminal and the other battery is wired to the positive terminal from the switch and the ground wire connects the other positive and negative terminals, when both batteries are selected on the switch, interesting things happen. Namely, a non-translucent switch body does become translucent, and the weaker battery tends to self-destruct.
2) Do not overtighten the nuts on an auto-reset circuit breaker.
The main lesson learned is to really act sheepish and call yourself stupid and an idiot in front of the DW, and if you have a good one, they will take pity on you!!! The biggest lesson that I took from all of this which DW was kind enough to remind me of, is NOT TO GET IN A HURRY!! That is when stupid mistakes are made from not checking things first. I only hope that this lesson in humility serves someone else as a preventive measure!

And here are pictures of mine in the battery compartment. Wiring may differ somewhat from model to model and I have a couple of added wires on mine to supply non Montana items.
Sometimes you can see the Amperage written on them without removing them from the wall, The specs on the left one of mine is visible the other is not.

Bingo.. Just a thought..I assume you have the series PD4300/PD 4500 Power control center....take a look at the operating guide. I had to do this when we had our power problem.
they have a "reverse battery protection Circuit" the explanation is on page two of my guide. "If a battery is accidently hooked up backwards, the converter will be protected. Easily accessible ATC type fuses will blow when a battery is connected in reverse"
Check your converter for proper operation.

Actually Rich, the service tech on the PDI explained this during our walk through. If it does not say it in the manual, the key is to replace all four 25 amp fuses at the same time. If you just try to replace one at a time, with the battery hooked up, they will blow. Battery must be unhooked, all four replaced, and battery hooked back up. I think in our situation, the marine battery switch took the brunt of the surge, I took it apart, and was amazed at the amount of copper that was gone. I cleaned it up and believe it is still usable, but the current surge caused it to arc between the switch plates which may have prevented anything from entering the rig. This is just supposition, but it does not appear that any damage was done to the rig's DC systems.

Ok. There is a procedure in the manual to check the convertor for proper operation. If that little green light blinks every 6 to 8 seconds you are good. I did not know what that green light was for or what it was doing so I stooped to reading the operating manual. Amazing things in there.
