Truck sales

http://www.thestar.com/Business/article/282628

I guess truck sales are following RV sales downward.

It was bound to happen with fuel as high as it is. People are maxed on credit cards and with the mortgage mess and the stock market down people are not looking to purchase big ticket items.

Normal cycling. Happens every time there are some bad economic indicators. Overall the economy does not appear to have much problem. But the mortgage mess has caused a lot of problems for a lot of people and really made the news.

As ole Rich had been saying for some time....The high cost of energy effects EVERYTHING we do, buy, etc. The mortgage mess just added to the impact.Things will come back down but many ordinary folks have paid the price for the greed of a few.

Build! Build! Build! That is what is going on in the greater Houston Metropolitan area. I'm 40 miles from downtown Houston and the freeway between Texas City and Houston is filling up with homes and townhouses. If the economy is in anyway failing, it sure isn't affecting the building industry.

Same here Waynem. I live 30+ miles north of Dallas and work in northern surburb of Dallas. Use to be a nice easy 30 mile drive thru the country to work. Now a traffic nightmare. My town that was under 20,000 20 yrs ago is over 115,000 now. All the other what use to be small towns on the north side also have populations that have increased 5 to 7 fold in the same period. And no sign of slowing down.
But 4 more months and I retire. No more commutting, except with the Monty of course.

Dave,

Heard this AM on the news that GM is laying off employees in 3 plants, believe they said they build trucks, reason: don't want the inventory to get too large. These lucky employees get 2 weeks off in January, ice fishing anyone??

So, are they on to your plan, large inventory, lets make a deal??

In our part of the country things are not so bright. Builders have cut prices on new homes. Consruction has halted on several other developments. We live in blue collar country, auto plants and related industries..These folks are hurting.

It was in our paper this morning that the GM truck plant will shut down for two weeks at Christmas time. That will take them into the new year. This is in Ft Wayne, In

Carol, I'm hoping that they waited too long to make the decision and found inventory piling up. Surely they wouldn't act like the Government would they - too little, too late???

Gas is $2.90 a gallon and new homes are sprouting all over the north, east and west sides of Oklahoma City. There is an economic problem here but the consumers forgot to stop spending. I have a feeling in a couple of months its going to get nasty around these parts.
