Battery hookup proper sequence?

I have another thread going about my hydraulic system not working -but
What is proper sequence to re-install batteries?
I had them tested and they are fully charged.
I took pics as I took them out and I have hooked up cables under the battery box cover just like it was. The unit is unplugged from shore power.
I put the cover back on and hooked up both positive cables.
I touched the negative to the pole and it sparked.
Is that normal - should I just ignore?
Or am I doing something out of sequence?

Mike,

Recommend you turn the disconnect switch off in your convenience center first (turn it so the key will come out) and then hook up the batteries. Do positive first then ground. It likely arched because you had something turned on. After connecting the batteries you can turn the battery switch back on.

It is not abnormal to get a spark when connecting the batteries to distribution system. This is because there are some loads ahead of the disconnect switch that cannot be turned off. Turning off the disconnect as mentioned earlier will limit the dc loads that can energize immediately when the battery leads are reconnected.

Generally, connecting the negative cable last like you did is fine. A spark only means something in the trailer is using power. That can be normal.

However if it is a BIG flash spark, you have something connected wrong and if you do the cutout switch you will have a major problem and possibly a fire.
Just saying if.
