50 to 30 amp service

My first time with a 50amp trailer. (3400RL) going to a campground with only 30amp service. I bought a dogbone to convert at the power box. Just curious about any problems I will run into or steps I should take to prevent problems.

If you want to run the A/C (only 1 not 2), then pretty much everything else needs to be on 12V/propane (i.e. refrigerator, water heater). The microwave is problematical if the A/C is running. And you have to be aware the converter will be kicking in periodically to re-charge the 12V batteries. Without A/C you should be fine although we run everything on 12V even then.

Yes what Carl n Susan said. keep in mind that with 50 amp service you have 50 amps per leg for 100 amps of available service. With 30 maps you have....30 amps so you do need to manage your usage. These rigs are power hungry.

All what Carl said but water heater and reefer should be on gas vice electric.

Don't use the micro & your hair dryer at the same time or the A\C or you will be running out to the pedestal a lot! just use your 110 volts carefully as far as what you turn on at the same time.

Fully agree with all the above. BUT. If you trip the park 30 amp breaker, no harm done. Just reset it and remember what you were doing at the time and try not to do it again.

It's doable, but we don't do it anymore. Summer is hot in the places we go and so we really need the second AC, but that aside, we just use too much electricity and got tired of having to go out and flip the breaker, adjust usage and wait for the next time the breaker trips.

I just posted this thread. First time I had ever been asked. Apparently it can be a problem.

You might also want to check another current thread on this subject that's currently out there and the reasons why doing this could harm the plug and the park.

Just dealt with this on my 3790rd. 50 amp at pole didn’t work and I had to use 30amp. Everything worked in my 5ver but the 2nd AC and the microwave. Microwave can be used but not while AC is going. Fortunately my one AC kept my RV cool- just took a little longer to cool down

I use a plug in AC voltmeter. I use it to keep an eye out that we may be pulling too much when on anything other than 50 AMP. Mine is different than this one, but they do the same thing. I put it where I can can readily see it.

How important do others feel a circuit breaker at the Park Pedestal?

The ones I hate are the CGs that don't have breakers at the site, and the main panel they are in is Locked. Even been a few places where they claim to charge you if they have to reset the breaker.
