WHAT EXACTLY IS DONE FOR STEP RECALL

Can anyone tell me what exactly is done for the step recall?? How many
rivets are they drilling out and replacing with nuts and bolts??
Is it just the one's holding the steps to the frame or is it all the rivets on all the steps?? Pictures would also help. Thanks

John,

There are 4 rivets they replace. The top step, two in the back.

Between the 2nd and 3rd step, the rivet that holds this step.

They replace the rivets with grade 5 bolts, spacer washers (plastic) and steel washers with stover nuts.

Had mine done Thursday. Makes the steps "feel" a bit more secure.

You can go to any ACE hardware store and buy what is needed for probably $5.00. But, remember the last person that touches it is responsible for it.

Jim

Some of us spin wrenches for a living and stand behind our own work. I do understand the example of beefing up a weak frame verses throwing on 4 bolts however.

Was just by our dealer yesterday and talked to the service manager. He told me that Keystone will not send out the parts "willy nilly" to dealers. The dealer is supposed to check the affected parts personally (preferred) or have the customer take pictures. When verified, they will then allow the dealer to order the necessary parts and do the repair. One other thing he told me, on some steps they are finding stress cracks as well. That is something else that they are looking for, and if they find them will probably replace the entire assembly.

John,

Here is link to the before and after pictures of the fix.

I did not have OK RV Center paint the bolts at the time of the fix as we needed to get on the road and it was also misting and I did not want the painted bolts to get full of dirt, etc. so I will paint with some black rustoleum now that we are stationary.

Frankly you could go to ACE, get better bolts and fittings and do a better job yourself. Did that on ours years ago and then replaced them with a much better set of steps.

My recall fix looked nothing like this. I've figuring that Tiara RV just did their own. My bolts are shorter and they nuts were not lock nuts. I did go to ACE and got the right bolts and nuts and my fix is working. So far my fix has works 7 days longer than what Tiara did.

There is a recall on the recall. New fix will be available soon at your friendly dealers. Ours was fixed and the dealer got a new Memo last Wednesday
